Job Description

 

SUMMARY:  This position oversees the production, quality/sanitation functions. Direct responsibilities include but not limited to, insuring a low-cost manufacturing environment with an emphasis on optimizing employee productivity, reducing quality related problems, improving employee safety, maintaining a clean and organized facility, controlling yields of packing and raw materials, managing employee turnover/ attendance and operating within established budgeted cost parameters.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:·         Over sees the manufacturing process and acts as the process authority for the shift on Line A/Pouch as required.  This includes the approval and sign off on changes to any manufacturing process.

  • Insures all processes meet the customer or specification requirements and minimizes risk to the company.
  • Responsible to maintain a qualified and productive staff to meet and/or exceed the expected level of performance and demands of the management and customers.
  • Participates in senior management team and will have ownership of plant performance as a member of the team and will be required to interact in all areas of the plant as needed through participation on this team.
  • Develop and monitor a continuous improvement methodology directed at improving performance in the departmental areas of productivity, quality, safety, attendance, sanitation, yields and cost reduction/control.
  • Initiate and develop a process for monitoring, measuring and reporting key performance initiatives within in the production, quality, sanitation and warehouse departments.
  • Optimize new product development through the standardization of materials and process to insure repeatability. 
  • Proven management and leadership skills to orchestrate complex large scale projects and fixed budgets.
  • Understand the ability to work and manage production line with hands on, on the floor style of management.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage and motivate employees in a seasonal environment that runs 90 days 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Ability to establish and use metrics and continuous improvements processes to drive up performance.

SAFETY:

  • Inspect all safety features on machinery and report any safety hazards.
  • Ensure proper safety Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn; bump caps, gloves, coats pants, safety glasses, face shields, and earplugs etc.
  • Ensure that all Good Manufacturing Policies (GMP’s) are followed at all times.
  • Will participate in Safety Tailgate meetings.
  • Required to know and understand the emergency shut off points of designated equipment

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:  This position will interact at all levels of the internal organizational structure as well as external relationships with industry professionals, customers, vendors, competitors, auditors and others as a normal part of the workday.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while

to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually

moderate which mandates the use of hearing protection. Works around constant forklift, shuttle and truck/rail traffic.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Operational understanding of CRYOVAC filling machines and the respective systems to facilitate the production environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Systems Engineering, Food Science, or Business and/or 5 years experience in a similar role with similar responsibilities.   
  • Language skills:  Highly effective in the use of the English language both written and verbal, ability to speak Spanish beneficial.
  • Mathematical/Financial skills: Highly literate in the preparation and management of numbers as it relates to preparing, projecting and managing financial performance.
  • Reasoning ability: The ability to determine cause of action through thorough investigative initiatives and strong reasoning ability.
  • Communication skills:  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Management/Leadership skills:  The ability to manage directly and through others.  The ability to provide situational leadership as well providing departmental leadership through the development of people and insuring the proper skill set and tasks are aligned to insure the highest probability of success.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Ability to be certified in CPR and First-Aid
  • Qualified fork lift operator
