Process System Engineer – Cryovac/Fresco and Related Equipment

Job Description

SUMMARY:  This position is responsible for the efficient operation of all flexible packaging equipment to include: training of all personnel, repair and maintenance, maintaining a low cost repair and maintenance program on all equipment, reducing / eliminating quality related defects due to equipment malfunction and adjustment and improving the overall efficiency and through put of all flexible packaging equipment.  This will include understanding all aspects of the equipment such as pneumatics, schematics, processing controls, seaming, weight control, temperature controls and locks outs to insure machinery cannot be tampered with by operators.   This job will also include evaluating new types of equipments for flexible packaging as well as evaluating the performance of various film structures and their performance on the equipment.  This will be concluded by performing the following duties.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible to troubleshoot and correct malfunctions with the equipment including pneumatic, electrical and mechanical. 
  • Responsible to fully tear down and rebuilds all flexible packaging equipment.    This may include modifications to existing design based on issues and problems.
  • Responsible to develop and maintain a low cost repair and maintenance program for all flexible packaging equipment.
  • Responsible to insure equipment is operating at or above designed efficiency for safety, quality and productivity.
  • Responsible to maintain and develop all CAD drawing of equipment systems and controls. 
  •  Installs and adjusts all aspects of devices and control instruments to include choosing types of control devices and programs.
  • Develops training criteria and scope of operator / mechanic responsibilities for the proper operation of all flexible packaging equipment.
  • Evaluates and improves upon engineered design of equipment to reduce quality related issues.
  • Using SPC develop upper and lower control limits of equipment capability and find ways through design improvement or modifications to improve the process control of all critical functions.
  • Maintains proper lubrication and repair and maintenance records on all equipment.  To include asset management for ROI and IRR evaluations.
  • Writes capital proposals for any modification or design work on flexible packaging equipment.
  • Evaluates and modifies equipment and/or equipment processes and controls to meet new product demands.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of CIP system for all flexible packaging equipment.
  • Responsible to stay up to date on best engineering practices and design in the flexible packaging industry and design or evaluate the design of new engineering designs and methods for the application within our company.

 

SAFETY:

  • Inspect all safety features on machinery and report any safety hazards to Pouch Supervisor.
  • Ensure proper safety Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn; bump caps, gloves, coats pants, safety glasses, face shields, and earplugs etc.
  • Ensure that all Good Manufacturing Policies (GMP’s) are followed at all times.
  • Will participate in Safety Tailgate meetings.
  • Required to know and understand the emergency shut off points of designated equipment

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually

moderate which mandates the use of hearing protection. Works around constant forklift, shuttle and truck/rail traffic.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:  of this position include strong leadership and management skills to include P&L responsibility and creating a high performance operation through the development of people.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Engineering (Mechanical and/or Process), Food Science, or Business and/or 5 years experience in a similar role with similar responsibilities.   
  • Language skills:  Highly effective in the use of the English language both written and verbal, ability to speak Spanish beneficial.
  • Mathematical/Financial skills: Highly literate in the preparation and management of numbers as it relates to preparing, projecting and managing financial performance.
  • Reasoning ability: The ability to determine cause of action through thorough investigative initiatives and strong reasoning ability.
  • Communication skills:  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Management/Leadership skills:  The ability to manage directly and through others.  The ability to provide situational leadership as well providing departmental leadership through the development of people and insuring the proper skill set and tasks are aligned to insure the highest probability of success.
