Job Description

The Software Project Manager is responsible for the coordination and completion of projects.  This role is accountable for delivering the agreed upon scope of the project on time and within budget while ensuring quality standards are met. The Software PM will manage projects from ideation through deployment.  This role sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors and summarizes progress of projects. They will also prepare reports for upper management and the sales department regarding the status of projects and raises red flags when appropriate.  Finally they must rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, lead and direct the work of others.  A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Set Deadlines for Development Team
  • Assign Responsibilities and Directs Work of Development Team and any external resources and expertise as appropriate to achieve project objectives
  • Oversees project prioritization, scheduling and responsibilities assignments.   Assures implementation of change management and scope control within each assigned or proposed project  
  • Monitor Progress and Follows-up
  • Provide Feedback
  • Escalate where necessary
  • Analyze / Identifies areas of  risk and develops plans to minimize
  • Quickly assimilate and applies new concepts, business models, and technologies
  • Manage budgets
  • Collaborate with functional areas in the evaluation of project personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions
  • Provide direction, guidance and priority setting at project/program level
  • Deliver presentations and project briefings to team and executives
  • Demonstrate mastery of Project Management craft, tools, techniques, and methods.  Assure compliance with standards within team.  Identify issues which may impact scope, quality, or delivery of project (outside scope of control) and ensure appropriate communication to senior management.  Manage team progress against project critical path and identifies issues or actions impacting or causing change
  • Mentor staff on the tools and techniques for resource modeling and estimating for projects
  • Assist in developing methods, practices and tools associated with knowledge management & transfer
  • Maintain tracking software and databases with periodic Gantt chart creation

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a focus on Information Technology (Ex: Computer Science, CIS)
  • 5+ years of Software Project Management experience, leading project teams of 5-10 people
  • Demonstrated mastery of IT/Technical Systems
  • Detail-oriented individual
  • Demonstrated experience establishing project schedules and internal milestones, identifying and resolving issues, and defining risks and mitigations
  • Experience at managing budgets
  • Experience in verbal, written, and graphic presentation/reports methods & practices associated with reporting project status. Accomplished mastery of project estimating and resource management methods & practices
  • 3+ years hands on Software Development experience
  • Strategic thinker – needs to understand the goals of the business. Strong business acumen
  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred
