Our client is a leading supplier of plastic films, nonwovens and laminates for personal care, packaging and specialty markets. Their products include components for disposable baby diapers, adult incontinent products, feminine hygiene pads, tissue and towel overwrap, food packaging, landscaping fabric, and protective films for technology components. They are currently searching for a Maintenance Supervisor in their Northwest Suburb facility.

In this role the Maintenance Supervisor will supervise all maintenance related activities of a plastic film extrusion plant. He or she will direct and guide the overall activities of the maintenance department including the preparation of the work lists, overseeing the maintenance of all plant equipment, building and grounds, train maintenance personnel, and handle first line employee relation matters. Incumbent will also define priorities and expedites items required in urgent situations; utilizes and direct the activities of both the maintenance technicians and outside contractors and perform other duties as required to promote overall plant effectiveness.
In supervising subordinates, the Maintenance Supervisor performs periodic evaluations of subordinates and recommends promotions or disciplinary action as required by department regulations. The manager is also responsible for ensuring that safety training is provided to staff and that proper safety practices have been followed. The manager answers questions and provide information related to projects, including resolving complaints and approving expenditures. Serve as first-line of communication contact for off-hour emergencies and may be part of a 24-hour pager rotation in the event of a staffing shortage. He or she will also prepare work schedules, assign work, and inspect work performed by the maintenance staff.
Additional Responsibilities include:
Updates, edits, and assigns PM work and procedures. Manages the work order system - manages the job plans for both PMs and other work in order to optimize planned down time.
Plans and holds regular maintenance team meetings. Disseminates information within the maintenance department in order to improve departmental performance.
Ensures maintenance department employees are actively involved in production improvement teams and their associated meetings. Provides appropriate GGOB information.
Manages department personnel. Insures people are treated equally and fairly.
Provides discipline and positive reinforcement on a regular basis. Insures department is manned appropriately for our 24/7 operation and any other planned or unplanned equipment repair requirements. Provides coaching and goal setting for each employee. Maintains appropriate employee records. Promotes overall team effectiveness. Helps resolve conflicts in the department - both within and outside of the department.
Assists maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and resolving problems beyond their ability including electrical, mechanical and fluid power equipment.
Ensures all maintenance employees have proper skills to perform work assigned.
Implements training and development programs for maintenance employees to meet goals of department. Ensures all maintenance employees are trained in safety procedures and corrects any unsafe conditions or practices.
Ensures the plant and our activities meet environmental, OSHA, and risk management recommended regulations.
Organize and plan for the successful development and execution of MMP (Miscellaneous Minor Projects) at the plant level.
Reviews technical publications and interacts with vendors to stay abreast of the latest technology and equipment.
Manages storeroom organization. Optimizes inventories. Ensures parts and supplies are available for work assigned-especially preventative maintenance work. Researches, specifies, and purchases non-stored items. Writes requisitions, reviews and processes invoices.
Investigates and completes reports for all injuries and near miss accidents in department in co-ordination with safety coordinator. Works with safety coordinator to implement safety improvements.
Your Qualifications:
Education or Training - Engineering or Technical Associates Degree; 4 year Engineering Bachelor's Degree preferred
Experience -5+ years Industrial Maintenance experience; 3-5 years supervisory experience with 1 year supervisory experience in maintenance (extrusion/ manufacturing)
Technical Experience- Mechanical and Electrical Equipment and machine control systems including PLC and drives
