Job Description

Duration: 0-12 Months

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent and 0 years of experience.

•Performs a combination of manual and clerical shipping and/or receiving duties which may require the use of hand trucks, forklifts, and other devices, as well as computers to maintain data. Receives incoming materials or prepares materials for shipment. Verifies quantity, weight, and conformance of materials; prepares records of materials shipped and bills of lading; routes materials to destinations. May lay out, fabricate, and assemble nonstandard shipping crates and boxes, and prepare parts and tooling for special shipment.

Knowledge Skills:

Moderate understanding of general job aspects and some understanding of the detailed aspects of the job. Assists more senior staff members with routine tasks. Refers questions and problems to higher levels.

Equipment Used:

Basic hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, pliers, saws, etc. Must know how to operate a forklift and other powered material handling equipment.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift forty pounds, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes and work in high heat/cold environments, aboard ships, under industrial conditions, in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme weather. Ability to operate portable power tools. Work may involve climbing and working on ladders.

Work Environment:

Normally, shop, shipboard and warehouse environments. Some office work possible. Possible exposure to fumes and irritants including welding/burning smoke, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents.

Manually (or with power equipment) loads and unloads freight cars, trucks, or other type of transportation. Unpacks, shelves or places items in proper storage locations. Transports goods by hand, forklift, truck, cart or wheelbarrow. Performs other duties as assigned. U.S. Citizenship and security clearance may be required when working on DOD contracts and possess a current motor vehicle driver’s license. Performs physical tasks to transport or store materials and merchandise.

Requires basic knowledge of routine duties. Detail orientated, attention to detail, multi-tasked and ability to follow directions.
