Job Description
AECOM’s Cost Management Team is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Client Director – Cost Management to play a strategic leadership role in growing and delivering our major programs of work across Australia. We are looking to speak with Senior Cost Management / Quantity Surveying professionals who are ready to step into a role focused on client leadership, strategic advisory and business growth.
You will work across a diverse portfolio of sectors—including sports infrastructure, health, education, aviation and defence - leading high-value client engagements and shaping major projects from inception through to delivery.
This role can be based in Sydney or Melbourne.
How you’ll make a difference:
- Oversee the successful delivery of major projects, ensuring technical excellence while maintaining strong client alignment and satisfaction.
- Act as a trusted advisor to key clients, leading major accounts and ensuring exceptional service delivery across Victoria, NSW, and nationally.
- Drive client strategy and growth, identifying opportunities, securing new work, and expanding AECOM’s cost management presence in priority sectors.
- Provide high-level commercial and strategic advice, influencing project direction, procurement strategies, commercial risk planning and value optimisation from early business case through delivery.
- Lead and inspire multidisciplinary teams, providing direction and assurance on cost management outputs, methodologies, and client engagement.
- Represent AECOM within industry networks, strengthening brand presence, developing partnerships, and contributing to thought leadership in cost management.
Qualifications

The qualities that help you thrive:
- Ideally, at least 18 years’ experience in cost management / quantity surveying with a strong track record of leading major clients and complex programs across sectors such as sports infrastructure, education, health, aviation or defence.
- Demonstrated success in client-facing leadership roles, including stakeholder engagement, negotiation, commercial strategy and high-level advisory.
- Strong understanding of Australian construction markets, procurement models, commercial frameworks, and industry standards.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or Engineering, ideally with suitable, relevant accreditations and memberships.
- Australian citizenship or eligibility for defence clearance preferred, as well as advanced skills in CostX and Microsoft Suite.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
