AECOM is seeking a EC Data Centre Lead to be based in South Africa's Enterprise Capabilities office in Centurion. This position will support a team locally based in South Africa and Global Teams. Job Description

Here is what you will be doing:

The role involves frequent international travel and leadership of high-profile hyperscale data centre projects from site due diligence through design and construction.

You will be client-facing, lead multidisciplinary teams, and ensure consistent, high-quality delivery. A strong background in architecture or engineering and excellent communication skills are essential. You will build on existing capabilities, grow revenue, and strengthen our global presence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow AECOM’s data centre design team, fostering collaboration and ownership.

  • Ensure technical excellence and standardized delivery across global EC Centres.

  • Manage full lifecycle of data centre projects (architecture, civil, structural, MEP, security, fire protection) within budget and schedule.

  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships; prepare proposals and lead presentations.

  • Oversee quality assurance, peer reviews, and adherence to AECOM standards.

  • Manage basis of design, localization, and scope change processes.

  • Proactively identify and resolve issues; communicate changes effectively.

  • Handle contract management and stakeholder communication.

  • Support MEA market strategy and collaborate with global sector leaders to leverage resources and capabilities.

  • Drive business growth through existing and new clients.

  • Travel as required for projects, clients, and team coordination.

Qualifications

Here is what we are looking for:

  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering from an accredited University
  • Master of Science / Engineering would be advantageous 
  • +12 years experience within the Built Environment in a similar function or industry
  • Professionally registered as an Engineer with ECSA would be advantageous
