Job Description
The Senior Architect is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing architectural work across all phases of the project. This includes managing small to medium-scale projects or distinct components of larger projects, with regular collaboration and oversight from an Associate or designated senior team member.
In this role, the Senior Architect leads the design and delivery of complex architectural packages or projects, ensuring alignment with client objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Responsibilities include managing project delivery planning, budgets, and resources; overseeing multidisciplinary coordination; and maintaining high-quality design outcomes. The Senior Architect also plays a pivotal role in mentoring junior staff, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation throughout the design process.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead architectural design and BIM modelling efforts, ensuring alignment with the design brief, codes, and multidisciplinary coordination requirements.
- Manage and guide architectural teams, including junior staff, by making informed design decisions and ensuring their successful implementation.
- Conduct self-checks and oversee quality reviews of the team as Design Reviewer outputs to maintain high standards of accuracy and completeness.
- Lead coordination with internal disciplines and external consultants, including structural, MEP, and specialist sub-consultants.
- Present design progress and technical packages to clients, managing communications to ensure satisfaction and alignment with project goals.
- Provide key design input during early project phases and maintain design leadership throughout all stages.
- Oversee the preparation of architectural documentation in accordance with the Initial Project Brief and Design Programme.
- Lead interdisciplinary reviews, including BIM spatial coordination and technical integration.
- Ensure that Safety in Design principles are embedded throughout all project stages.
- Manage resource deployment and ensure services are delivered within the architectural discipline’s budget, and ensure that the design is compliant with the budget.
- Applies advanced technical expertise to independently manage complex design and construction tasks, ensuring compliance with project specifications and codes.
- Leads moderate to high-complexity assignments, coordinating work across teams and mentoring junior professionals.
- Proactively identifies and implements process improvements, solving complex issues and contributing to project and business success.
- Provides technical guidance, reviews deliverables, contributes to proposals, and anticipates stakeholder needs to ensure positive project outcomes.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years post-undergraduate experience.
- Bachelors in Architecture or Master in Architecture, or equivalent.
- RIBA Part 2 equivalent (RIBA, AIA or equivalent) preferred.
