Job Description

AECOM's Water team is actively seeking an Civil Inspector (Technologist) for a new, full-time position based in our Ottawa, Ontario office. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a diverse portfolio of municipal infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater systems, transportation infrastructure, land development, and stormwater management.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, supporting projects through design, tender, and construction phases. This role is well suited to a motivated technologist with strong construction inspection and Civil 3D design skills who is looking to grow within a leading global consulting firm.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee daily on-site operations including the preparation and maintenance of daily work logs and other project documentation and reporting
  • Work closely with the Project Engineer and Project Manager, to ensure construction complies with project specifications
  • Liaison on site with contractor, client, and other approving authorities, including addressing resident concerns
  • Schedule and conduct regular project meetings with the contractor and client
  • Provide clarification of drawings and direction to the contractor, with remote support from the Project Engineer
  • Responsible for monitoring conformance to quality, performance, specifications, and/or code requirements by performing inspection duties
  • Participate in punch lists, testing, and commissioning
  • Conduct field surveys and site measurements using GPS and/or total station equipment
  • Prepare design, tender, and record drawing packages using Civil 3D
  • Assist in the development of site servicing, grading, drainage, and municipal road design drawings
  • Training of entry-level employees

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology with a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in municipal or water infrastructure inspection and design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid ON driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Eligibility to obtain Reliability Status (Government of Canada security clearance)

 Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of experience in the design, surveying, and inspection of municipal infrastructure and land development projects, including: road reconstructions, subdivisions and site plans, water distribution and wastewater collection systems, pumping stations
  • Experience producing site servicing, grading, drainage, and roadway drawings using Civil 3D
  • Advanced construction inspection and field services experience
  • Experience completing topographic surveys using GPS and total station equipment
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), Certified Technician (C.Tech.), and/or Road Construction Junior Inspector (rcji) designations are considered strong assets
  • Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC)
  • Experience assisting in Contract Administration duties including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFI’s, preparing Change Orders, reviewing Payment Certificates, etc.
  • Experience assisting with cost estimates, technical specifications, and contract documents
  • Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset
