Job Description

AECOM's Water team is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Civil Engineer for a new, full-time position based in our Ottawa, Ontario office. This position offers the opportunity to lead the design of a diverse portfolio of municipal infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater systems, transportation infrastructure, land development, and stormwater management for municipal, provincial, and federal clients.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, have extensive knowledge and experience in civil engineering and construction management principles, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic consulting environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead designs and reviews of water and wastewater conveyance infrastructure in a municipal environment including site servicing, grading, drainage, and municipal road reconstruction
  • Working directly with the group manager, project managers, engineers in training and technical staff on Water projects
  • Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision
  • Perform constructability reviews
  • Prepare documentation for design projects and reports
  • Preparation of technical specifications, tender documents, cost estimates, and contract administration services
  • Conduct and support technical quality reviews to ensure compliance with applicable standards, guidelines, and regulations
  • Additional responsibilities will include client communication and management, assistance with proposal preparation, contract preparation and negotiation, coordination with regulatory agencies, permitting, project planning, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Provide guidance to entry level engineers

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and 4+ years of related experience with conveyance engineering, design, and construction oversight
  • Registered as a P.Eng. in the province of Ontario
  • Eligibility to obtain Secret (Level II) Government of Canada security clearance

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of related experience specifically in design and construction of municipal water infrastructure and land development projects
  • Expertise in capacity planning, future demand assessment, operations, and maintenance of water distribution, sanitary and stormwater management systems
  • Experience designing and reviewing site servicing, grading, drainage, and municipal road designs, as well as conducting field inspections to ensure compliance with municipal standards
  • Understanding of Low Impact Development (LID) best practices for stormwater management design
  • Experience preparing Functional Servicing and Stormwater Management Reports, cost estimates and tender packages
  • Experience assisting in Contract Administration duties including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFI’s, preparing Change Orders, reviewing Payment Certificates, etc.
  • Experience assisting in proposal writing and job scoping
  • Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset
  • Registered as a P.Eng. in the province of Quebec is an asset
  • Project management experience (including in an assistant/deputy role) is considered an asset
  • Valid ON driver’s license and access to a vehicle
