Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Counsel (Operations) to join our legal team in Brazil. The selected individual will be responsible for providing strategic advice and comprehensive legal support to engineering, construction, and infrastructure projects in the country, ensuring legal and contractual compliance according to international standards and the corporate policies of the group.
This role requires a combination of strong legal judgment, business acumen, leadership, and the ability to manage multiple disciplines in a dynamic and multicultural environment.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Advise the structuring, negotiation, and execution of engineering, construction, and consulting contracts.
- Identify and mitigate legal and contractual risks at various stages of projects.
- Ensure compliance with internal risk review and approval policies.
- Coordinate and oversee legal matters in collaboration with technical, financial, and project management teams.
- Manage external counsel and represent the company’s interests before clients, partners, and local authorities.
- Ensure alignment with global policies and ethical and compliance standards.
- Prepare and review contractual documentation in English and Portuguese.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in law, with a license and qualification to practice in Brazil with +1 YORE in corporate, commercial, and contractual law in the construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors. or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Advanced level of English and Portuguese language is a must (oral and written fluency).
- Availability to work full-time, on-site work
- Willingness to travel.
- Excellent negotiation and legal drafting skills.
- Leadership and decision-making ability.
- Clear, effective, and strategic communication with multicultural teams.
- High capacity to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in corporate collaboration and IT tools.
Additional Information
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in law, with a license and qualification to practice in Brazil with Minimum of 4 years of experience in corporate, commercial, and contractual law in the construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
- International experience in companies headquartered in the United States
- Common Law: Desirable ability to work fluently across legal systems with strong familiarity with US (Common Law) corporate and commercial contractual terms and conditions, and capacity to interpret, translate and align such provisions with their corresponding concepts, structures, and enforceability under Brazilian Law frameworks.
