Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Civil/Environmental Engineer to join our growing Environment team. The right candidate can work locally from our Halifax, NS office and AECOM can provide hybrid work options to give the flexibility you need to do your best work. This is a regular, part-time position.
We have a significant backlog of major northern mine remediation, remediation and civil design projects in need of great team members. The role encompasses a blend of technical advisory services, engineering design review, and program‑level integration across multiple workstreams. Our preferred candidate has a can-do attitude, is enthusiastic, team-oriented professional, with a strong technical background that is up for the challenge of working on these fascinating projects.

Responsibilities
Below are example responsibilities you can expect when working within the AECOM team to deliver all phases of projects:
Provide technical advisory services on environmental remediation design, engineering integration, contaminated sites management, and overall program delivery.
Lead or contribute to design reviews across all project stages, concept, schematic, design development, and IFC, ensuring compliance with technical, regulatory, and governance requirements.
Participate in technical and peer review sessions, preparing detailed written comments, recommendations, and quality assessments of design and engineering submissions.
Support project scheduling, cost planning, risk assessments, and quality assurance activities, ensuring effective project controls throughout the remediation program.
Liaise across multidisciplinary teams including geotechnical, environmental, regulatory, and engineering specialists to ensure issue resolution, design integration, and technical alignment.
Contribute to regulatory processes, including CEAA/YESAA reviews, Water Licence submissions, environmental reporting, and integration of mitigation measures into project designs.
Provide technical support during construction and commissioning, including review of submittals, participation in site meetings, inspection support, and interpretation of design intent to resolve field issues.
· Prepare, coordinate, and review technical reports, including design reports, regulatory submissions, and environmental documentation, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with project requirements and quality standards.
· Mentor and support junior and intermediate staff, providing guidance on technical tasks, project delivery, career development, and fostering a collaborative and growth‑oriented team environment.
Provide technical support during construction and commissioning, including review of submittals, participation in site meetings, inspection support, and interpretation of design intent to resolve field issues.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Civil, Geotechnical, Environmental etc.)
8 years of related experience within civil, municipal, environmental, or geotechnical projects
Proficient technical writing experience for detailed design reports and regulatory document submissions.
Preferred Qualifications Below are examples of experience that would be an asset when working in this position:
15 years of experience
P.Eng. registered with multiple provincial or territorial jurisdictions.
Advanced degree in relevant field
Experience leading design reviews, working on major remediation programs, and with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Demonstrated success supporting major procurement processes, regulatory submissions, stakeholder engagement, and Indigenous participation requirements.
Strong background in risk management, QA/QC, and technical coordination for large, multi‑phase environmental programs.
PMP certification
