Job Description
AECOM is seeking a High School Intern to work in both AECOM Milwaukee office and project team offices. The internship will begin March 2026 and is expected to end August 2026, and hours vary during school year and summer period.
Internships at AECOM offer students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. Interns work with cutting-edge technology, learn industry’s best practices, and collaborate with experienced professionals in a globally recognized firm. The program fosters both technical and professional skill development while providing networking opportunities that can enhance future career prospects. Additionally, AECOM’s dedication to innovation and sustainability enables interns to contribute to meaningful projects that help shape communities and the built environment.
Students will complete assignments focused on their specific interests while exposing them to a wide variety of professions in the design and construction industry. Hands-on practical experience is a fundamental aspect of preparing a student for a career, and we believe this is best achieved through a variety of activities with mentors representing the various disciplines in our industry:
- Students will spend time shadowing various disciplines – architects / designers, building engineers, scientists, project managers, construction personnel, economists, environmental engineers, cost estimators, and business/ management (marketing, legal, financial) to learn about each discipline. This includes both virtually and in-person.
- Students will shadow BIM technicians, project engineers, field engineers, and AECOM’s Digital Technology group to learn about the technological side of construction, including introductory or even advanced training in relevant software.
- After the necessary safety training, students will tour project construction sites, take photos of work in progress to compile visual documentation of the project, and complete site observation reports.
- Students will shadow Project Managers and take minutes for various meetings.
- Students will spend time with trade/material vendors and help the architects and designers update materials libraries and collections.
- Students will complete First Aid Certification and Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) 10 Certification.
- Students will learn how to read plans and organize a construction drawing set. They are taught to update plans for projects in construction, with RFIs and revisions to keep a current set.
- Students will have access to AECOM University, which provides over 5,000 AECOM courses to explore technical topics.
