This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping sustainable transport solutions for our public‑sector clients, including multiple Scottish local authorities, regional transport partnerships, and national agencies.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

You will work within a collaborative, supportive team recognised for delivering high‑quality design, technical excellence, and strong client relationships. The role provides opportunities for leadership, project coordination, mentoring junior staff, and working closely with our Engineering colleagues in India.

Key responsibilities and requirements:

Project Delivery

  • Lead the technical delivery of feasibility, concept, preliminary, and detailed design projects across active travel, traffic engineering, public transport priority, road safety, junction improvements, and wider Streets initiatives.
  • Produce and review drawings, design reports, calculations, and technical notes to high quality standards.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant Scottish and UK standards, guidance, and governance processes.

Project Management

  • Manage small to medium‑sized projects or work packages, including programme, budget control, risk management, and quality assurance.
  • Support Project Managers and senior leaders on larger multi‑disciplinary commissions.
  • Assist in project planning, work allocation, and coordination with our EC teams

Client Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Scottish local authority clients and framework partners.
  • Respond proactively to client needs, ensuring high levels of communication, responsiveness, and quality.
  • Represent AECOM at meetings, workshops, and site visits.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical input, oversight, and checking of work produced by junior and mid‑level engineers.
  • Contribute to design best practice, innovation, and continuous improvement across the Streets Scotland discipline.
  • Support the development of design tools, templates, and technical processes.

Team Support and Collaboration

  • Assist in mentoring and supporting graduate engineers, technicians, and apprentices.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across Transport Planning, Structures, Environment, and other disciplines.
  • Work seamlessly with our EC colleagues, ensuring clarity of instruction, consistency of output, and efficient project delivery.

Work Winning and Business Support

  • Support preparation of bids, proposals, fee estimates, and client briefs.
  • Contribute to business development activities and framework delivery (e.g., Scotland Excel, City of Edinburgh Council, and local authority commissions).

What we offer:

  • Flexible hybrid working
  • Professional development support, mentorship schemes, and training agreements with major engineering institutions.
  • Career development opportunities via AECOM University, technical practice networks, and volunteering days.
  • A range of core and personalised benefits tailored to your lifestyle and well-being.
  • Charity & Community Activities – fundraising challenges, sponsored walks/runs, STEM outreach days, and local volunteering initiatives.
  • Wellbeing Events – yoga sessions, wellness weeks, lunchtime walks/cycles, and mental health awareness activities.
  • Sports & Clubs – five-a-side football, cycling groups, hiking clubs, and participation in corporate challenge events and many more
  • Annual Celebrations – summer events, holiday celebrations, and recognition awards.
