Are you a fan of or have read The New Yorker, Town & Country and/or Vanity Fair? Well, take the present-day concepts for those magazines and put the focus on educated professional people of color (Blacks/African Americans, Latino/Hispanic Americans, Asians/Pacific Islander Americans and Native Americans) 25 to 35 in age. That defines what the purpose and direction of the digital media site Modern Treatise.

Modern Treatise is the cultural fiber that connects people of color to the creators, tastemakers and achievers across multiple arenas, as well as sparking conversation around the cultural themes that impact the world around you.

Through well-researched exposition and informed perspective, Modern Treatise is the premiere destination for our affluent and aspirational discerning readers. 

Job Description

The Culture Editor intern will cover all social and cultural related content that identifies with and relates to Modern Treatise target people of color demographic.  

Responsibilities:

  • Write a weekly domestic/international society column.
  • Write a bi-weekly pop cultural column.
  • Write a monthly histories/traditions column.
  • Write a monthly column on fiction/non-fiction books and periodicals.

Duration: 6 months

This is a virtual and unpaid internship. Yet, you will gain valuable writing experience.


Qualifications

The candidate should possess a desire/interest in writing content for a sophisticated educated non-monolithic people of color target demographic.

The candidate should also possess an aptitude/interest in writing  about social topics from multiple perspectives as it relates to Modern Treatise target demographic.

The candidate should also possess an aptitude/interest in writing about pop cultural topics as it relates to Modern Treatise target demographic.

The candidate should possess an aptitude/interest in writing content that relates to and identifies with the diverse experiences of people of color.

Preferably applicants should be a college graduate or graduate student studying journalism or English (or a related field) and have prior writing/reporting experience with your school newspaper or another
publication. Dedicated writers/editors/bloggers with non-traditional backgrounds are also welcome to apply. Must be able to give a year commitment.

Note: This internship is not a place for one to test out or present their personal ideological ideas and concepts. Nor is it a space to present political wish-think. So, any candidate must be able to fully explore and present various viewpoints on a whole host of cultural topics.
