AVANCE is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which began in San Antonio, Texas in 1973. AVANCE derives from the Spanish word meaning “to advance or “to progress.” AVANCE is considered a pioneer in the field of parent education, helping support children and families achieve excellence through education and family-intervention programs which includes the renowned AVANCE Parent-Child Education Program. We provide community-based interventions, which are family-centered, preventive, comprehensive, and continuous through the integration and collaboration of educational services.

What began in a 500-unit public housing development in San Antonio, Texas, with an annual budget of $50,000 serving 35 families, AVANCE has grown to over 100 program sites across the U.S. serving thousands of parents and children annually.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reports to the President/CEO, will serve as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting AVANCE, Inc.  In partnership with the CEO and Board of Directors, this position is responsible for all development and marketing activities.  The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build AVANCE, Inc.'s visibility, impact and financial resources.  The Chief Development and Marketing Officer will design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support.


Working Conditions:

General office and sedentary. Regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.  Work evenings and weekends as needed.














Job Description

1. Will have primary responsibility for  establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to  sustain annual operations as well as long-term growth through the solicitation of major  gifts, federal and state grants, events, and corporate and foundation support.

2. Assure that the organization’s corporate culture, systems and procedures support fund development and vice versa.

3. Institutionalize philanthropy and fund development within AVANCE, Inc.

4. Will expand and diversify AVANCE, Inc.’s donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives.

5. Will work closely with the board of directors and support board members as they take on a more active fundraising role.

6. Support and partner with the CEO and board members on all major fundraising initiatives.

7. Collaborate with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to develop and implement AVANCE, Inc.’s financial strategy.

8. Actively work with the CEO and senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, government grants, etc.

9. Oversee comprehensive communication plans that includes strategies to build AVANCE, Inc.’s visibility and impact.

10. Oversee the development and execution of all proposals, including writing and archiving all proposals with a long-term relationship-management approach.

11. Oversee research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position AVANCE, Inc. nonprofit ahead of major funding changes or trends.

12. Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to board and senior leaders.

13. Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors.

14. Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program.

15. Identify, develop and mentor the development team, agency staff and volunteers.

16. Work with local Chapter Executive Directors and their Development and Communications staff to develop effective comprehensive fundraising plans and provide training and technical assistance as needed to successfully execute the plans.




Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree required, fundraising and communications training completed (i.e. major
giving; strategic leadership; grant writing)

EXPERIENCE:

10-plus years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated
success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources)
Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time
