Abode Communities is a non-profit organization whose mission is to open new doors in people’s lives through creative and responsible design, development and operation of service-enhanced affordable housing. The organization owns 37 properties that are home to more than 6,100 residents and has approximately eight additional properties under predevelopment that will eventually place an additional 2,500 people in affordable, service-enhanced housing over the next three years.

Job Description

The intern will provide communications support to the evolving Abode Communities’ brand. This can include, but is not limited to, the development of communications for sector-related marketing materials; newsletters and electronic communications; award submissions; website updates; and social media. Data research to support sector-specific business development functions will also be required.

Qualifications

We are looking for a energetic and self-motivated critical thinker who, under the direction of the Director of Communications and Fund Development, will assist in the development of a broad range of corporate communications in support of Abode Communities’ multidisciplinary brand. The ideal candidate:

 

  1. Supports the organization‘s mission;
  2. Is enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in marketing, communications, journalism or related field;
  3. Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  4. Is experienced in using social media for organizational development;
  5. Is experienced in using electronic mail services such as Constant Contact, iContact or MailChimp; and
  6. Is experienced in Microsoft Office; and
  7. Graphic design experience in Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.

The rate of pay for this temporary, non-exempt position is $10 - $15 an hour depending on experience. Candidates should be available approximately 15 - 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
