Job Description

SUMMARY

This individual will be responsible for providing database administration for the all database infrastructure at Align Technology, Inc.  This individual will handle new database configurations, performance analysis, tuning and all regularly scheduled maintenance.  This individual will also participate in evaluation and recommendation of the database hardware and software and operating system infrastructure.  This individual will be the person responsible for the Align Production/Testing database infrastructure environment.  This person will also be responsible for maintaining and managing the SAP environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • Ensure systems uptime
  • Maintain existing SAP Business One system and all associated add-ons, implement new add-ons
  • Implement, upgrade and enhance cost-effective fault-tolerant database infrastructure
  • Analyze system performance.  Establish and uphold performance metrics for the system as whole and key business applications in particular.
  • Fine-tune the databases to match application requirements.
  • Work closely with software vendors to ensure continual support of systems.  Oversee system projects by working with internal business units and consultants.
  • Provide database support and maintenance.  Support user’s requests in relation to system problems and requests for enhancements.
  • Develop custom reports and subsystems to assist employees in managing their workflow and business process.  Support software projects involving the database infrastructure which this person supports.
  • Assess and cultivate long-term strategic goals for BI development in conjunction

with end users, managers, clients, and other stakeholders.

  • Act as evangelist for BI benefits across the organization; promote BI usage to

relevant departments.

  • Evaluate and select database/data warehouse components, including hardware,

relational database management systems, ETL software, metadata management

tools, and database design solutions.

  • Conduct research and make recommendations on BI products, services, and

standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

  • Direct, organize, and lead projects in the implementation and use of new BI

software tools and systems.

  • Lead the integration efforts for merging BI platforms with enterprise systems and

applications.

  • Design, code, test, and document all new or modified BI systems, applications,

and programs.

  • Develop the semantic layer, metadata, reports, and report definitions.
  • Develop graphs and portal interfaces.
  • Assist in the design of databases and data warehouses to ensure interoperability

with BI solutions.

  • Analyze user requirements and, based on findings, design functional

specifications for BI front-end applications.

  • Produce ETL design guidelines to ensure a manageable ETL infrastructure for

the BI system.

  • Work with project managers to ensure that data entry, retrieval, change and

delete functions meet business requirements for project completion.

  • Conduct job duties and responsibilities according to the organization’s business

systems development methodology and/or its Systems Development Life Cycle

(SDLC) methodology.

  • Design and deliver end-user training and training materials; provide technical

support as necessary.

  • Troubleshoot BI tools, systems, and software; performance-tune these

applications as necessary.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • BA degree in a design-related field. 
  • Solid background in Microsoft SQL, adhoc SQL queries, log shipping and store procedures. 
  • 5-7 years of experience as SAP administrator/DBA
  • 5-7 years’ experience as a DBA in a fast paced, high growth, technology and intensive environment.
  • Solid experience in SQL (2005, 2008 & 2012)
  • Solid background in Windows server administration
  • Comprehensive data warehouse analysis and design experience, with full

Knowledge of data warehouse methodologies and data modeling.

  • Experience with tier-one applications, databases, and data warehouses
