Job Description

Join ALPADIA’s team to make summer 2024 an unbelievable experience! We are looking for highly motivated people, who have the ability to engage and inspire young students, and who are looking for an enriching and educational experience themselves.

The role will involve taking overall control of the English language teaching in the camp, ensuring it is of a high standard and EFL teachers are supported to deliver high quality lessons.

Key responsibilities:

• Safeguard and promote the wellbeing of all students in our care
• Ensure all language tuition is appropriate to a young learner school environment and that Alpadia’s syllabus is delivered in line with its stated mission of focusing on communicative content
• Understand and be able to respond to questions about Alpadia’s syllabus and course content and support where necessary
• Demonstrate leadership of department, through leading the team of teachers and ensuring teaching output is of the highest possible standard
• Deploy the team of Teachers so that they are matched appropriately to their teaching ability, their students (inc. level, age, nationality), suitable classrooms and the course syllabus
• Work with other managers to ensure classes are covered in case of Teacher sickness or absence
• Lead a weekly Professional Development Session for teachers in a spirit of positive engagement
• Complete all lesson observations of teachers, focusing on their continued professional development
• Lead and assist with the training and induction of the Teacher team
• Show initiative to ensure the syllabus is adapted to meet the specific needs of our students, both at a class and individual level, ensuring this is done throughout the department
• Encourage the sole use of the target language in classrooms wherever possible, both from the students and the other teachers
• Represent ALPADIA at all times in the best feasible way, being polite and friendly to the students, both inside and outside of the classroom
• Help ensure all procedures/templates related to academic provision, including level changes record, timetables, staff substitution records, are completed promptly
• Lead and assist with the presence check attendance register for students
• Ensure Class Files, including lesson materials, testing results, the syllabus, and schemes of work, are kept up to date
• Complete end-of-course report certificates for all our students, including some tailored remarks from the teachers
• Arrive at the camp, and ensure all lessons start and finish on time
• Ensure all ICT equipment is fully functioning prior to the start of camp and assist Teachers in the use of this
• Lead a daily Teacher’s Meeting, minuting important points raised and discussing as appropriate
• Read, understand, and sign any relevant risk assessments as required
• Liaise with the Camp Manager to resolve any instances of issues/questions/concerns raised by students, agents, parents, or other stakeholders
• Maintain at all times proper levels of student discipline, safety, and welfare, highlighting any issues to the Camp Manager
• If necessary, prepare and teach your own classes to a high standard, with a keen understanding of cultural sensibilities, to ensure all lessons stretch and inspire our students

Qualifications

Your profile:

Essential:

  • First degree 
  • A minimum of three years’ teaching experience 
  • A sound knowledge and experience of teaching 12-17 year olds 
  • DELTA, Trinity Dip TESOL, Masters in either TESOL, ELT or Applied Linguistics
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt where required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure
  • A high degree of IT competency - Outlook & MS Office (specifically Excel) 

Desirable:

  • Experience in summer schools or similar structures preferred
  • Educational management experience in a summer or residential setting
  • Postgraduate degree or equivalent
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Adopts a positive approach to personal learning and development
  • Demonstrates respect for equal opportunities and diversity 
  • Safeguarding and Welfare experience with under 18s

  • Typically a residential position with accommodation provided on site
