Job Description

The Product Engineer is the cross functional leader for Associated Materials new product introductions, typically managing between 1 and 3 complex product introductions. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in leading teams using positive influence and technical expertise, delivering products and projects within established time and cost controls. The ability to consistently and accurately document all design, test, change and process will be key factors in the success of this role.




  • Coordinate all aspects of new product introductions using AMI’s Stage Gate product development process, preparing for and passing stage gate reviews
  • Define and deliver CTQ’s for each new product
  • Lead risk management and mitigation – Identify key project risks, categorize, assess corrective actions, lead implementation of action plans
  • Ensure proper upkeep and maintenance of revision controlled technical documents
  • Accountable for the development, coordination, and maintenance of the company’s engineering controlled documents as they relate to the designated product lines.
  • Conduct or provide detailed input for engineering testing of product including written test plans, DFMEA and final engineering reports
  • Ensure product performs appropriately in tests, participating in cross functional teams in APQP process throughout the product development cycle



  • 4 year engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering with a detailed knowledge of an MRP system and a comprehensive knowledge of BOM structure and change control processes
  • 5 years leading new product development projects with a capital impact of at least $1-$3M
  • Deep process engineering knowledge – light assembly, metal and plastic fabrication, extrusion with vinyl window and extrusion industry experience a plus
  • Deep knowledge of design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) in a lean environment. This includes the 3P kaizen process for product design development, 2P kaizen process for developing process design and the utilization of design reviews and sign offs to gain organizational buy-in
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, 3-D CAD software such as Solidworks with working knowledge of Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
