Why this Role Matters
This role is essential for keeping our offshore projects safe, on schedule, and running smoothly. As the operator of a Self-Elevating Platform, you lead the crew, make key operational decisions, and ensure all work meets safety and quality standards. Your experience and leadership directly affect the success of the project and the safety of everyone on board.
What You'll Drive
- Operate and maintain one of our Self-Elevating Platforms on BESIX or third-party construction sites.
- Work day and/or night shifts according to project requirements, operating the barge following instructions from project management. This includes positioning the vessel, preloading and jacking up the legs to the desired height, and assisting with site operations such as craning, loading, or offloading.
- Lead, coach, and manage the crew necessary to operate and maintain the barge.
- Ensure the vessel meets all requirements set by local and international marine authorities or certification bodies.
- Coordinate maintenance work with project management and/or the Brussels Head Office, providing detailed reports of all maintenance and repair activities.
- Oversee safety onboard, conducting toolbox talks, safety drills, and pre-task briefings; ensure all crew and visitors adhere to safety protocols.
- Prepare and distribute detailed reports on daily activities.
- Monitor weather, tidal, and current conditions continuously, taking or organizing necessary precautionary measures to safeguard the vessel and crew.
- Lead subcontractors and team members, motivating and monitoring them to meet project deadlines, even under challenging circumstances.
- Promote adherence to safety, quality, and environmental policies while documenting best practices and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Ensure the well-being of all personnel onboard, enforcing company guidelines for safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
- Demonstrate flexibility and perseverance, adapting effectively to changing work locations and unexpected operational challenges to achieve project objectives.
Qualifications
- Degree in navigation or several years of relevant experience. Trainees with a strong interest in offshore work are welcome.
- Basic Offshore Training Certificate and/or Certificate in Marine Operations for Self-Elevating Platforms is a plus.
- Interest in technical work to operate and maintain the barge safely.
- Good knowledge of DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System).
- First aid knowledge (certificate is a plus).
- Good English skills; French or Arabic is a plus.
- Offshore crane operator qualification is a plus.
- Comfortable using computers and standard office software.
- Flexible and able to work abroad.
Important Note: The position will be based in Oman during the initial phase and is expected to relocate to Mozambique thereafter.
