Job Description

General Responsibility

This position requires an experienced Project Engineer possessing well-developed people and project / process engineering skills and sound business judgment. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrable record of success on medium to large scale projects in the Alternative Fuels and Raw Materials Handling (AFR) industry together with strong leadership and management skills, along with effective decision-making capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support AFR projects from Sales / tendering thru Project Execution and manage a multi-disciplined project engineering team throughout the complete project life-cycle.
  • Coordinate and manage external engineering and project support functions on a regional as well as on the global level.
  • Develop a solution concept that meets the project’s required performance, schedule and profitability targets and work diligently to meet or exceed those targets.
  • Assist Sales in the creation of equipment proposals by providing engineering analysis and design expertise.
  • Support Sales in cost estimating.
  • Prepare drawings, layout and sketches for mechanical equipment
  • Check design deliverables of varying complexity using 3D/2D design tools.
  • Independently implement constructability concepts.
  • Participate in the development of the engineering portion of the project schedule.
  • Perform research and analysis of customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to execute the engineering content of assigned projects.
  • Oversee the projects engineering activities through the design, procurement, fabrication and field installation.
  • Review the layout and detailed Mechanical and Structural design of sub-systems and sub-assemblies for accuracy, completeness, economics, specifications and code compliance, safety, quality and environmental standards. Ensure that the responsible mechanical, structural and electrical disciplines perform design reviews.
  • Prepare material requisitions defining the mechanical and electrical items to be purchased.
  • Attend conference calls and on-site meetings with clients as directed by Manager.
  • Evaluate and understand project requirements to plan execution of components design and select system components.
  • Ensure local standards, norm, and codes as well as health, safety and environmental standards in the design to meet or exceed legislated requirements and company policy.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • University graduate in preferably Mechanical (or Process) Engineering or similar technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years "hands-on" Project Engineering experience of increasing responsibility, leading teams in project delivery.
  • Experience with a variety of project delivery methods (e.g. Design-Build, Design-Bid-Build).
  • Experience in managing design institutes.
  • Able to travel to job sites, as required for position. Estimated travel: 40%.
  • On-site experience.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills along with demonstrable leadership capabilities in creating unified and motivated project teams.
  • Essential skills include planning / layout design and process knowledge.
  • Decision-making / creative problem-solving skills driven.
  • Work closely with customers and team members and decision makers to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support the project tasks.
  • At all times, interface with all members of the organization in a professional, calm, helpful and courteous manner – including Senior Executive. Management, Sales, Procurement, Project Management, field personnel and external stakeholders.
  • Strong, independent decision-making ability. The individual will be a self-starter and possess a strong work ethic with a self-imposed desire to exceed everyday expectations.
  • High degree of personal integrity and the ability to serve as a mentor to co-workers.
  • Materials Handling / AFR Handling experience within the cement industry preferred.
