Job Description

BIC has an exciting opportunity for a high-energy communications professional to fill the role of Communications Coordinator, supporting the Senior Manager of Global External Communications. The ideal candidate will possess a penchant for writing, details and project management and an interest in growing their media relations, issues management and corporate storytelling skills.  
 
The Communications Coordinator will play an instrumental role in supporting communications strategies to build the corporate reputation of BIC in North America and globally. Core responsibilities for the position include acting as project manager for external communications programming – keeping the team honest with timelines, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders and staying cool under pressure – while also maintaining communication with key media contacts, drafting materials such as plans, announcements, video scripts, talking points, Q&As, etc., leading one of BIC’s global education initiatives, and more. 

 

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Serving as a key project manager on the team, liaising between internal departments, vendors and agencies to keep teams, budgets and deliverables organized, to research information, and secure approval of materials. 

  • Assisting in the development and execution of comprehensive communications strategies for the organization, including global initiatives related to education, sustainability and innovation, some product announcements in the U.S., and executive visibility. 

  • Overseeing daily monitoring process for BIC and competitors, managing vendors and flagging relevant news updates for key stakeholders.   

  • Maintaining media relationships on behalf of the brand through proactive and reactive outreach. 

  • Drafting, editing and proofreading materials including speeches, press releases, blog content, pitches, fact sheets, FAQs, briefing notes and video scripts.  

  • Supporting strategy development and serving as key project manager for BIC’s Cristal Pen Award program to support teachers globally. 

  • Supporting the team as needed in responding to and monitoring issues and researching and drafting responses to media inquiries.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required

    • A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or a related field is preferred.

  • 1-3 years of experience within public relations or corporate communications at an agency or in-house is required.

  • An interest in and desire to learn and grow a career in public relations or corporate communications. 

  • Excellent written and verbal skills. 

  • Experience in administrative support including developing agendas, meeting recaps, status reports, and budget trackers is preferred

  • Proficiency in the professional use of social media, and comfort using digital collaboration tools.
