Ballard Kayak is hiring for our 5-star Sea Kayak and Paddleboard tour and rental operation out of Shilshole Bay Marina for the summer season. These are great positions for those who are outgoing, love people and are passionate about the outdoors.

Positions are available for the summer season, May - September. These positions may provide flexible hours, ranging from part time to full time. Compensation will be based on prior experience and all positions include daily tips.

• Sea kayak guide with occasional work as rental staff

Sea Kayak Guide Position

This position will mostly consist of leading kayak tours in Puget Sound and through Salmon Bay with clients of all ages and skill levels.

DUTIES:

The Employee will provide the following services to the Company:

• Lead kayak and/or paddleboard tours with customers of all types and skill levels
• Educate customers on the Puget Sound environment, history of surrounding areas, wildlife and ecology.
• Provide safety briefings and paddling technique in a clear, understandable and age/experience-appropriate way
• Stay attuned to client safety and satisfaction
• Ensure equipment and gear is clean and dry, stored correctly, and in good repair at all times
• Assist with tour logistics
• Be responsible for safety and risk management: stay alert and be prepared to respectfully and tactfully cancel or truncate a tour based on weather, conditions, customer behavior, etc.
• Know how to safely and quickly launch and run the safety dinghy
• Assist with rental operations to ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction
• Communicate clearly and regularly with management regarding customer experience, equipment issues, scheduling, and any other related information
• Other services consistent with the foregoing.

Kayak/Paddleboard Rental Staff

In this position, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our kayak and paddleboard rental shop in the Shilshole Bay Marina

DUTIES:

The Employee will provide the following services to the Company:

• Educate customers in Puget Sound environment, history of surrounding areas, wildlife and ecology.
• Provide safety briefings and paddling technique in a clear, understandable and age/experience-appropriate way
• Stay attuned to client safety and satisfaction
• Ensure equipment and gear is clean and dry, stored correctly, and in good repair at all times
• Assist with tour logistics
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs on a regular basis
• Be responsible for safety and risk management: stay alert and be prepared to respectfully and tactfully cancel or truncate a tour or rental based on weather, conditions, customer behavior, etc.
• Know how to safely and quickly launch and run the safety dinghy
• Assist with rental operations to ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction
• Communicate clearly and regularly with management regarding customer experience, equipment issues, scheduling, and any other related information
• Other services consistent with the foregoing.
