Job Description

Summary:

Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project.

The HBJV has an exciting opportunity for a Buried Services Field Engineer to join Jansen team in Saskatchewan. The Buried Services Field Engineer is a subject expert who is familiar with installation of buried utilities such as process, and non process pipe systems and electical distribution The buried Services FE supports site Engineering activities at the Jansen construction site. Ensures the procedures and policies are followed and field activities conform to the project specifications; contribute to corporate policies; instructions; procedures and guidelines are being follwed at the construction site.

 Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to the appropriate discipline.
  • Establish a field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Project Engineer, including agreement engineering deliverables and overall construction application configuration management.
  • Responsible for quantity take-off, control, tracking, reporting and forecasting.
  • Specify the criteria for construction of temporary construction facilities as required.
  • Coordinate with the Procurement Organization for field procured materials, material substitution, services and equipment.
  • Review material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.
  • Coordinate and monitor the interfaces for data exchange to support the construction automation plan and the project controls program requirements at the jobsite.
  • Support the construction quality program.
  • Participate in the preparation of cost estimates for construction activities and coordinate the preparation of cost reports, forecast and progress reports.
  • Coordinate with Field Supervision and Subcontractors to plan/support construction schedules.
  • Plan and recommend procedures to be implemented by Field Supervision to ensure construction operations are within requirements of engineering design and specifications.
  • Work with customer’s resident engineering and operating personnel to coordinate construction activities.
  • Coordinate subcontract activities to ensure materials, equipment and quality comply with design plans and specifications.
  • Implement controls over variables affecting job progress such as equipment installation, maintenance, and testing. Also ensure engineering and procurement provide timely delivery of drawings, materials and equipment and that other corporate programs are fully utilized.
  • Perform other duties as required by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience, or 12 years of relevant experience in the absence of a degree.
  • Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 60 lbs.
