Job Description

Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project. 

Bantrel is currently looking for a Structural Designer for at 12 Month contract. The Structural Designer is part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects. The role is responsible for the production of structural 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with project requirements under the supervision of the Lead Structural Designer. The successful candidate will participate in a wide range of projects covering the design of reinforced concrete and structural steel for industrial structures and mining plants. Activities include structural steel and concrete modeling and drafting for both front end planning and the detailed engineering phase for multi-discipline projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lead Structural Designer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule
  • Coordinate the work of draftspersons in the preparation of contract drawings, record keeping and other statistical work
  • Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software as required
  • Perform conceptual layout work
  • Develop design details
  • Check drawings prior to release
  • Ensure coordination with designers and engineers within the discipline and with other disciplines
  • Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models
  • Participation in formal engineering review processes
  • Verify onsite condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities
  • Incorporate safety in design.

Qualifications

  • Technical school diploma specializing in civil/structural design
  •  Substantial civil structures design experience
  • Experience within a large project, multi-disciplinary EPCM environment
  • Proficient in the use of 2D and 3D structural design/drawing software packages
  • Knowledge of Smartplant 3D software
  • Knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project
  • Understanding of other discipline requirements
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good safety awareness.
