Job Description

Summary:

Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project.

We are seeking a Package Manager to lead all activities for the preparation and development of the contract package for a $100M+ SMPEI (Structural/Mechanical/Piping/Electrical/Instrumentation) construction package. The successful candidate will manage this critical multi-disciplinary SMPEI scopes of work for the Jansen Stage 1 processing area from kick-off to award and be responsible for overall coordination and preparation of scope of work and specification indices, technical specifications, risk assessments and execution strategy reviews, coordination of technical requirements with the engineering team, contracts group, area management, construction team, and Client stakeholders. The Contract Package Manager is the single point of contact across the project from package kickoff through to contract award and executes this responsibility until the package is awarded and mobilization to site commences.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide support during the tendering process including evaluation of proposals, selection of a contractor and negotiation of a contract.
  • Responsible for the development and socialization of contract plans and recommendations to award.
  • Provide support to the Processing Area Manager/ Engineer by owning and assuming responsibility for all activities associated with an SMPEI construction package including coordination of the execution of engineering, contracts and procurement, construction and project controls activities for the contract.
  • Assume responsibility to expedite all technical as well as non-technical groups associated with the package preparation, bidding, and award
  • Establish a package development schedule and execute to that schedule (provide regular updates)
  • Ensure that the package documentation complies with all regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the review of all technical vendor and contractor submissions and return of comments or acceptance
  • Create package to document relationships between package documents and relevant EWP, CWP and procurement packages in SPF
  • Provide regular feedback to the Area Manager on progress with preparation of deliverables
  • Coordinate, in conjunction with the Contract Administrator, all commercial activities for the duration of the package
  • Obtain a good understanding of the packaging strategy and commercial conditions included in the project execution plan
  • Assume responsibility for the preparation of the monthly forecast of schedule and cost at completion
  • Prepare and coordinate approval for project changes related to the SMPEI package
  • The role may require periodic trips to the project site.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the EPCM industry with a focus on project management, project engineering, and package management
  • Bid evaluation, and award experience for major construction contracts
  • Onsite construction experience
  • Knowledge of project delivery, including the activities, interfaces, and interdependence of all project disciplines
  • Familiarity with data-centric project delivery tools
  • Knowledge of general office software and tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint)
  • Experience with greenfield and brownfield interfaces
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong personal commitment to Safety and Quality
