Job Description

Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project.

Summary:

The Wet Processing Area Lead for Piping is responsible for implementing the plan to meet the Project requirements and manages a team of piping engineers and designers to ensure regulatory code compliance and quality of deliverables. In addition, the Wet Processing Area Lead for Piping assists in achieving the required project schedules and costs and resolution of all technical issues related to the discipline.

Jansen Specific Requirements:

  • Piping Engineering Lead for the Mill (Balance of Plant) or the Wet Mill
  • Willing to travel between our Mississauga office and our High Value Centre in Gurgaon, India.  The large majority of time will be spent in Mississauga (2-3 trips/yr to India).
  • Potash (preferred) or Mineral Processing Experience
    • Designing slurry systems
    • Experience with Plastic (FRP and HDPE) and Lined Material (Basalt and Ceramic lining)
    • Experience with equipment specifications and piping requirements
    • Execution engineering, including the construction and commissioning phase
  • Experience with managing a team of designers in High Value Centres
  • Experience with modularization construction strategy
  • Experience with SmartPlant tools, specifically SPPID, SPR, S3D, SPRD
  • Extensive knowledge of 3D data centric design systems

General Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all work designed or supplied by the Piping engineering discipline complies with the relevant sections of mandatory health and safety standards, including any pressure piping regulation or code referred to within the required jurisdiction for the Project with due consideration of relevant client engineering standards
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, execution strategy, cost and schedule with the Project Piping Lead
  • Prepare a list of engineering deliverables and time based functions to facilitate the planning and control of the engineering budget
  • Manage and review the Piping engineering work packages associated with all deliverables and time based functions to ensure that budgets and schedules are being met, and take corrective action if necessary
  • Review and approve Piping technical deliverables, specifically hydraulic and stress calculations
  • Assist in the preparation and development of project specific procedures
  • Manage Piping system requirements to achieve the Project results and monitor effectiveness
  • Represent the Piping practice in project engineering co-ordination and design review meetings
  • Ensure co-ordination, between the Piping team and other disciplines of all activities being performed as the design evolves
  • Participate in HAZOP reviews
  • Ensure resolution of Piping issues during Project lifecycle, including planning phase, design, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning
  • Promote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of Piping engineering work
  • Adhere to and promote the Project safety culture.

Qualifications

  • BSc/B.Eng degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Registration as a professional engineer in the province of Saskatchewan
  • Minimum ten years piping engineering experience with a minimum five years project engineering experience or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years of Potash (preferred) or Mineral Processing Experience
  • Ability to manage and motivate individuals to attain quality, cost and schedule objectives
  • Strong deliverable focus, ability to plan the work
  • A high degree of understanding of inter-discipline dependencies related to the discipline
  • Good understanding of procurement, contracting and commissioning methodologies
  • Technical exposure to specialist technologies related to the Project
  • Good understanding of Company systems and workflows as they relate to the Piping practice
  • Sound knowledge of Piping codes and standards applicable to the Project
  • Sound technical knowledge of Piping, including P&ID development, line sizing, material selection, isolation requirements and valve selection
  • Familiarity with the requirements and application of pipe stress analysis
  • Knowledge of advanced Piping systems and management tools
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Site experience in a Piping technical role.
  • Experience working on large projects in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Extensive knowledge of 3D data centric design systems
  • Strong ability to delegate tasks and promote the effective performance of team members
  • Experience in mentoring young professionals
  • Extensive experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects
  • Significant previous experience in engineering planning for the discipline
  • Strong client focus.
