BHP’s Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP’s first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.

The Jansen project has established an Integrated Project Team (IPT) between BHP and the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute the mining scope. The IPT promotes shared accountability between BHP and HBJV, trusting people selected for each role as they work towards safely delivering the mining scope on time, on budget, and with high quality. The IPT is effective in work planning, rapid and empowered decision-making, and continuous improvement through a joint construction and operational mindset. The IPT provides members with new perspectives, new ways of working, and long-term career progression opportunities.

The Superintendent Execution Planning is accountable to embed, within the Mining Area Contractors, the planning framework, processes, and procedures which ensure contractors are ready to execute work safely and on schedule. They will lead a team of Specialists who will work closely with the contractors to guarantee Field Instruction Work Packages (FIWPs) are completed on time and to the highest quality. The Superintendent Execution Planning will also support other areas of the Jansen Team including Mining, Shafts and Operational Readiness.

    • Consulted on (pertaining to Transition Scope):
      • Decisions regarding minor changes to design (mine plan, safety bays, turnaround drifts, construction design, etc.)
      • Changes that affect contractor teams
      • Contract scope evaluations for RFPs
      • Constructability reviews
      • Short & medium term mine planning
      • Contractor selection & technical evaluation

Supervision Received

  • Direct, day-to-day supervision and oversight from the Head of Mining Delivery

Supervision Exercised

  • Day-today supervision and oversight of Execution Planning Specialists

Accountabilities:

  • Maintain and update the planning framework for contractors
  • Embed the planning framework within all mining contractor ways of working to improve safety and reduce variability in execution
  • Complete contractor assessments and modify the planning framework based on contractor capabilities to focus on key opportunity areas
  • Work closely with the contractor teams to ensure onboarding requirements are achieved
  • Facilitate routines, to ensure contractors take accountability for the coordination of their teams to complete planning activities on schedule and to high quality
  • Seeks to embolden execution planning standards within the contractor, and supports analysis and improvement of construction cycles
  • Works with BHP Operations to align on the final transition from the project team to BHP
  • Conducts risk-based assessments of the schedule to identify complex activities that require additional planning focus to be successful
  • Ensures team members are adhering to and exhibiting Jansen core values

Qualifications

Skills/Job Knowledge/Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in general field transition and/or project management and detailed planning
  • Mine construction experience is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to create clear targets and routines
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and schedules
  • Ability to operate effectively and work under pressure in fast-paced environment utilizing agile methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts and technologies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to support the contractor through a targeted training and coaching plan around execution planning and performance management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to influence teams without line accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to work together with contractors in productive manner, guided by Values like Integrity, Simplicity and Respect
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required
  • Ability to foster an inclusive enviroment for their team while adhering to the Jansen core values
