Job Description

Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project.

The Project Engineer is expected to have underground mining experience and familiarity with multidiscipline underground mining projects. 

This is a 6 to 12 month full time term.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ability to coordinate with engineers and designers both within the mining discipline and other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide mentorship and supervision to junior and intermediate level mining engineers.
  • Provide technical input and calculations (as appropriate) for the design, layout and delivery of shafts, headframes, hoists and ancillary equipment.
  • Provide input and prepare technical specifications and data sheets for shafts, headframes and hoists and infrastructure equipment.
  • Provide input and prepare technical specifications and scopes of work for trade contracts.
  • Conduct technical evaluations of proposals received from equipment suppliers. 
  • Review technical documentation and drawings submitted by suppliers of shaft, headframes, hoists and infrastructure equipment to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Ability to prepare required deliverables within budget and on schedule.
  • Strong personal commitment to Safety and Quality.
  • Ability to work and communicate positively within a team.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience in EPCM supporting Mining projects, potash experience is preferred.
  • Experience of mining shafts and associated mechanical systems (skips, hoists, hydraulics).
  • P.Eng designation in any province.
  • Great communication skills (client facing).
  • Knowledge of Smart plant, specifically SPF is an asset.
