Job Description

Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI), and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion, this will represent one of Canada's most significant projects and private investments. To execute this exciting project, the HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems and the proven HBJV suite of tools. 

The Technical Support AFE will report to the FEM (Field Engineering Manager), the Technical Support AFE is responsible for managing the following members of the field engineering team;

  • The field engineering systems team consists of a field engineering digital data systems lead, a reality capture specialist, and a site model coordinator supported by information technologists working within the Integrated Construction Team (ICT) onsite.
  • Supporting the project Turnover team and commissioning team.

The Technical AFE shall be the first point of contact to address the site systems’ technical issues for CDM (Construction Data Management) and SC (Smart Completions). They will take ownership of the systems and liaise with all stakeholders. The Technical Support AFE shall form the link between the Owner (BHP), Engineers of Record (HBJV), and the construction team. This shall include CDM and SC maintenance in collaboration with the site ICT team.

The Technical Support AFE is also responsible for providing site oversight and support for the following site teams who report directly to offsite managers:

  • Site Integrated Construction Team (ICT) team consisting of a site ICT lead and 3 ICT coordinators. The site ICT team report functionally to the offsite Systems Program Manager
  • Site document control team consists of a document control lead, associated document controllers, and project services team members. The site document control team reports functionally to the offsite Information Manager

* Please note that this position is not eligible for a relocation subsidy or living out allowance. This will be a camp position on a 14-day-on, 7-day-off rotation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Technical Support AFE is accountable for ensuring the field engineering digital data is updated and maintained current with the IFC engineering information required to support the construction activities of progress and quality documentation. The tools include:

  • CDM (Construction Data Management) for:
    • Validating and quantifying construction progress
    • Maintaining tags to FIWP (Field Installation Work Package) relationships
    • Capturing actual hours
    • Capturing and reporting material status 
  • Supporting the Turnover team
    • Capturing construction quality records
    • Managing turnover construction verification certificates
    • Managing punch items together with the turnover coordinators
    • Approving timesheets of team members
  • Quality
    • Developing and maintaining processes and procedures in support of business needs.
    • Act as a champion for maintaining and improving digital data management in accordance with project procedures and BHP visions.

Qualifications

  • Appropriate technical or degree or equivalent combination of education, training
  • Proficient working knowledge of the technology used in construction engineering, including Building Information Management (BIM), Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), Digital Twin approach to asset lifecycle management, data capture and exchange through gates from design to operations and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of quality management processes and systems, ISO standards, and auditing processes related to significant project delivery or program management
  • High attention to detail, motivation, and commitment to quality outcomes.
  • Ability to operate effectively and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment utilizing agile methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts and technologies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including functional managers and discipline leads on the project, clients, outside vendors, and contractors
  • Demonstrated strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis training
