Job Description

This is our direct-client opening for a Java Architect located in Columbus, GA. This is a 3-6+ month contract-to-hire position and the hourly rate and salary range depends on experience. Our clients prefers local candidates to the area but will consider non-local candidates (no relocation assistance is available). 

Job Summary:
Responsible for Designing, Implementing and maintaining an Enterprise Service Bus which will integrate with multiple legacy platforms and be exposed to several service channels for the purpose of credit card consumer servicing and payment processing. Insures synergy between software and hardware architecture to maximize performance. Adheres to standard procedures and development methodology. 

With little or no supervision, develops and builds applications within department in a fast-paced object oriented environment.

Participates in the design phase of all software projects to ensure that application architecture best practices are considered and followed.

Works with Business and Operations teams to ensure that software solutions are in sync with strategic hardware and operating systems direction.

Acts as a liaison between application development and engineering/operations to facilitate software project infrastructure planning and implementation.

Anticipates and researches new technologies and maps industry standard technologies to internal software projects.

Provides cross-project guidance to leverage in-house use of existing technologies.

Assists in the design of application systems to ensure that they perform well logically and physically.

Ensures that new development is consistent and well integrated with existing application systems.

Assists in post-implementation continuous improvement efforts in enhancing performance and providing increased functionality.

Participates in RFP development and vendor selection process for the purchase of software systems.

Develops relationships with professional organizations, user groups, and industry trade groups to stay current with technology.

Mentors the Application Development staff in appropriate technologies as required. Assists with coding and development standards to ensure that they are consistent throughout the department. 
Develops an understanding of our software platforms, and the credit card industry.

Has an excellent understanding of project development/management processes, methodology, and the impact of the project management metrics.

Participates and leads in team, department, and division meetings as required. 


Four year college degree in Computer Science or Information Management and eight or more years professional experience, or equivalent technical degree with ten or more years professional experience is required. 
Extensive experience in OO development, J2EE (JSP, JMS, EJB, Servlets, JDBC, etc.), web service development and testing (XML, XSD, SOAP, WSDL, etc.), and a RDMBS (OLTP & OLAP) preferably with DB2, Oracle or SQL Server.

Knowledge of application-level security concepts. 
Candidates should have experience designing and developing highly scalable, highly available enterprise applications that include B2B/B2C applications and Enterprise systems integration.

Experience integrating with mainframe systems, with a focus on MQSeries middleware. 
Experience with full systems lifecycle design and development, including some business/process analysis experience, Agile Methodology preferred. 
Experience with leading a team on Enterprise level projects / initiatives. 
Experience with the Financial Industry, specifically payment processing business concepts.
