Job Description

Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), the nation’s oldest and largest youth development organization, is seeking a Senior Vice President, Marketing who will lead the organization and the Boys & Girls Clubs Movement in a new marketing strategy. The Senior Vice President, Marketing will partner with an experienced Board of Governors and Board Committees, representing the nation’s corporate giants and top marketers across America and throughout the World. In addition, the Senior Vice President, Marketing will interface with top industry leaders in developing our new marketing agenda.

The Senior Vice President, Marketing is responsible for leading BGCA’s national marketing strategy, strengthening and significantly lifting the awareness of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America brand, developing partnerships and integrated marketing initiatives, building social media strategies, driving contemporary vehicles to reach varied audiences, engaging celebrity, sports and alumni groups, and providing leadership and direction in the development and delivery of comprehensive marketing training and resources to support our local Boys & Girls Clubs, enhancing the large scale impact of Clubs on communities and young people.

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Senior Vice President, Marketing has primary responsibility for staying abreast of the trends and issues facing today’s youth and for leading the organization’s efforts to provide relevant, creative, and impactful marketing solutions that support our ability to reach more young people, volunteers, the general public and donors.

The Senior Vice President, Marketing will be a talented professional with substantial experience in strategic thinking, project management, research and analysis, and communication. S/he must also provide evidence of prior authentic leadership, an ability to build strong professional relationships, and business acumen. Knowledge of and experience in multi-local affiliated or franchised marketing is preferred, with understanding of best practices to influence independent operation while gaining collective ownership and consensus with varied sized affiliates. This leader will be responsible for developing marketing plans and strategies that meet the different levels of sophistication and the capability of local organizations, and can easily be replicated with fidelity. Skills to drive messages to all size communities with impact at the local level will be necessary.

The Senior Vice President, Marketing will lead a team of more than 30 staff, all of whom report to the SVP through three Vice Presidents and two Senior Directors. The department is comprised of five major areas: Marketing Strategy & Operations; Sports, Entertainment & Alumni Relations; Editorial Services; Creative Services/Interactive Communications; and Supply Services.

The Senior Vice President’s principal functions include high quality, strategic leadership which inspires world-class innovation, planning/performance management, project direction and management, leading the marketing efforts of the Movement and in close partnership and collaboration with the Resource Development team, significantly lifting the awareness and connection with the brand among all stakeholders, especially the donor public. In addition, this position has full accountability for: (1) building the brand through a comprehensive marketing plan; (2) developing partnerships in conjunction with others around integrated marketing strategies; (3) engaging celebrity, sports and alumni groups; and (4) providing editorial, design and production services and supply services support for the national organization.

The Senior Vice President, Marketing will be working closely and in collaboration with the Chief Communications Officer (who also reports to the President) to develop and implement strategies to communicate time-tested positive youth development principles to the American public.



Bachelor’s degree required in marketing, public relations or related degree. A master’s degree in marketing or related degree is desirable.

Minimum of fifteen years of progressive responsibility and leadership in marketing, brand management and/or new marketing strategy development, including extensive and successful experience in a top leadership position in marketing. Demonstrated successful experience in effective organizational and time management, customer service and communication.

Experience managing a group or department, with successful experience and outcomes in the development of a new marketing and advertising strategy. Additional desired experience includes market research, brand strategy, public relations, public affairs, and creative design and production.

Proven track record in development and implementation of strategic marketing plans; and experience in influencing others to achieve expected results.

Knowledge of and experience in multi-local affiliated or franchised marketing is preferred, with understanding of best practices to influence independent operations and gain collective ownership and consensus with varied sized affiliates.

Knowledge about the Boys & Girls Club Movement a plus.

Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office
