The Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan educational organization dedicated to building leadership and public policy knowledge within the Asian Pacific American (APA) community. Its mission is to promote APA interests and success in public service careers, to provide information and education on policy issues affecting the APA community, and to serve the APA community at large.

Job Description

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) will host two separate symposiums for undergraduate and graduate college students interested in public service careers. The symposium will focus on careers in natural resource management, biological sciences, and environmental education with the FWS.

 

LOCATIONS: Sheperdstown, WV (Jan 31-Feb 3, 2013); Albuquerque, NM (Feb 7-10, 2013)

 

SYMPOSIUM OBJECTIVE: Provide participants an overview of the mission and programs of the FWS and the range of skills needed to pursue federal careers in natural resource conservation, including resource management, biological science, and environmental education. The symposium will also provide participants with information on how to obtain valuable work experiences while still enrolled as a student.

 

PARTICIPANTS WILL

• Network with FWS senior leadership and learn about the rewards and benefits of working in a federal agency and with the FWS.

• Discuss future wildlife conservation challenges that their generation must address in coming decades.

• Learn about the requirements for biological science, visitor services and natural resource careers available at FWS.

• Learn about key FWS conservation internships and career employment opportunities on the Web, including YouthGo.gov and USAJobs.gov.

• Receive training and information on writing resumes and interviewing for jobs with the FWS and other Federal conservation agencies.

 

FUNDING INCLUDES: Student's Roundtrip Travel and Student Room and Board (2.5 days)

Qualifications

Participants must be enrolled in degree programs majoring in natural resource management, biological sciences, environmental science, environmental education, or education with a minor in biological sciences, and interested in exploring future employment opportunities with the FWS.

Students must also be U.S. Citizens.
