Job Description

If you’ve been developing your skills in HR and would like to get experience as a true business partner, this is the opportunity for you. This is a maternity leave coverage position where you will have the chance to hone your skills daily in a dynamic business environment. 

Reporting to the Director, HR, and working collaboratively within the HR team, this position will partner with regional operations leaders to provide front-line human resources consultation and strategic support. CEDA’s office staff is currently working remotely but the incumbent should be based out of Edmonton, Calgary or Red Deer.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with varying levels of leadership from field foremen & supervisors to managers, directors, and regional vice presidents to provide guidance on appropriate people management best practices such as performance management, coaching, discipline, reward & recognition, and exit strategies  
  • Conduct complex workplace investigations (i.e. harassment, violence etc.) and formulate performance management and disciplinary recommendations, in both union and non-union environment
  • Ensure all employment practices and recommendations comply with all pertinent legislation (AB, BC, SK, ON) 
  • Provide high level HR support to our small US operation 
  • Collaborate with Director, Mechanical Services & Labour Relations to address all union related personnel matters including adherence to various collective agreements 
  • Actively participate in industry affiliations such as ACTIMS, union halls, general presidents committee (GPC) and construction labour relations board (CLR) 
  • Responsible for accurate and timely human resources information system (HRIS) administration and applicable file documentation with support from the HR coordinator 
  • Interpret company policy, i.e. Corporate, HR, Finance, HSE, DOA etc. to facilitate resolution of escalated policy and personnel issues 
  • Champion HR process improvements, process mapping, documentation practices, standards and procedures
  • Partner and/or lead project work on HR and cross-functional initiatives and programming for CEDA

Role Specifications:

  • 3-5 years of HR generalist experience where you were a partner to leaders in a consultative support role 
  • 1-2 years of direct labour relations experience 
  • A bachelor degree in business administration is preferred; related experience is prioritized 
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation in progress or attained
  • Experience working in a mid-size business with various business units 
  • Strong understanding and willingness to learn and be up to date on legislation for our provincial operations (AB, BC, SK, ON)

The HR Business Partners are part of a larger CEDA people team that includes Learning & Development, Recruitment, Employee Resource Centre, Benefits and Compensation. Within these departments we have specialists who work collaboratively to support our field operations throughout Canada and in the US.
