Job Description

This job is for a new grad seeking field experience at an organization that has opportunity for engineer career development. This role will primarily be in the field, learning to operate Chemical Cleaning equipment to service our client sites. You will be asked to do intensive labourer duties, blend chemicals, and follow direction from your field supervisors and operators.

This is a temporary opportunity starting in August and will last until October. You will be expected to work shifts that vary from 6x1 or 12x2 with 10-12 hour days. There will be day and night shifts.

For EITs, this represents a unique opportunity to develop industry knowledge with hands on experience in multiple areas of the APEGA P.Eng Competency Based Assessment (CBA) (1.1,1.3, 1.6, 1.7, 2.1, 2.3, 5.1). Successful Candidates will be assigned a P.Eng Supervisor for the purposes of their application process, and to be able to contact for mentorship during their employment with CEDA. Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain all equipment associated with Chemical Cleaning – we will train you
  • Work as part of a team and follow direction from supervision
  • Complete minor maintenance and checks on equipment
  • Haul hoses, PPE and tools to where the work is being done
  • Inspects equipment, hoses, connection, pumps and general work area prior to starting job
  • Wear the personal protective equipment prescribed by posted signs, established operating procedures, written instructions, and work permits
  • Leave the job site in better condition that when we got there. Clean, safe and job done
  • Complete required paperwork for projects and jobs
  • Challenge your eye for detail, practice what we preach. Take your time, get the job done right the first time and safely every time
  • Other duties as assigned

Role Specifications

  • Undergraduate Engineering Degree (preferably Chemical, Mechanical, or Process)
  • At least one year of experience working as a labourer, EIT, or working in a plant, a MOD yard or fabrication facility
  • Preference given to those registered as or eligible for enrollment as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with APEGA
  • Valid ESC CSO will be required and a valid H2S alive is ideal
  • Class 5 licence is required, preference given to those with a Class 3 licence
  • Ability to work shift work (days/nights) of 10 to 12 hours per day
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to work everyday
  • Available and willing to travel out of region for work – we will supply travel and accommodation

Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • You are safety focused when it comes to people and equipment
  • Experience and comfort with confined spaces
  • Prior experience working at heights
  • Perform physically demanding work including climbing multiple flights of stairs and carrying equipment (able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis)
  • Comfortable with the use of additional respiratory equipment and air supply; wearing a full face mask and carrying your own source of oxygen
  • Work outdoors in harsh weather conditions
  • You’re happiest working in a team, sharing a laugh with your coworkers and getting the job done safely
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment drug & alcohol test
