Job Description

CEDA is committed to taking steps to support reconciliation and foster a growing relationship with our Indigenous partners and communities. As the Indigenous and Community Liaison, you would have the opportunity to bring your vision to grow our Indigenous Relations, Community Investment and Inclusion strategies. Our strategy is multi-pronged, focusing on increased recruitment, retention, procurement, investment and partnership with local Indigenous communities. As a proud member of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo business community, we are looking for an individual with strong community connections who wants to showcase their knowledge and passion for Indigenous culture and community. With operations across Canada, there is opportunity for the right candidate to expand the reach and influence of our Indigenous Relations strategy. 

Within this position, the incumbent will have the autonomy to identify internal and community initiatives to support our Indigenous Relations strategy and our Environment Social and Governance goals. Working in a nurturing environment, the incumbent will grow strong business skills by developing, implementing and evolving policies and procedures that respect our commitment to our Indigenous partners and communities.

This is a full time position reporting to the Director, Business Services in the Fort McMurray office. 


Key Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Effectively network to develop, build and maintain successful relationships within the Indigenous community.
  • Develop strong relationships with the internal core business and operational leaders to help implement Indigenous Relations Programs in alignment with CEDA’s business objectives.
  • Engage with local communities and programs to successfully employ and retain Indigenous employees.
  • Prepare and conduct onsite presentations in Indigenous communities; attend Indigenous business events, career fairs and band activities.
  • Develop and coordinate the requirements for Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) certification in support of regional business goals and corporate strategies.
  • Organize internal and external ESG materials; ensuring information is accurate, relevant and consistent
  • Establish a positive and consistent message for all community involvement
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications 

  • University degree in Business Administration or other relevant discipline
  • Five (5) years of relevant Indigenous relations and community engagement experience
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of local Indigenous culture and traditions
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and integrity
  • Experience using discretion of confidential employment matters 
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
