You will provide legal support to the HSE Unit, which, reporting to the Director-General, is responsible, for the establishment, and interpretation of the Organization's regulatory framework in matters of Safety, radiation protection, occupational medicine, fire and rescue services and monitoring of - and reporting on the environmental and radiological impact of the Organization’s activities.

Functions

You will be working within the Transversal Services Group of the HSE Unit (HSE-TS) and in collaboration with lawyers, scientists, engineers and other colleagues across the Unit and the Organization. In particular, you will:

  • Draft and review the Organization’s rules and policies in matters of health and safety and environmental protection;  
  • Advise and follow up on legal matters related to subjects falling within the mandate of the HSE unit and on strategic orientations of Safety at CERN;
  • Provide legal support
    • for HSE initiatives;
    • to stakeholders in HSE matters;
    • to internal and external Safety committees, including those established following agreements with Host-States.

Qualifications

Master's degree or PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of law or a related field.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in legal- and legal drafting work, preferably acquired in an international environment.
  • Experience in any of the following would be an advantage:
    • Drafting of internal regulations,
    • Interpretation or implementation of the EU- and international regulations in matters of health and safety or environmental protection.

Technical competencies:

  • Drafting and writing of official legal documents;
  • Knowledge of Environmental Law;
  • Knowledge of Labor Law (including Health and Safety legislation);
  • Knowledge of EU regulations.

Language skills:

Spoken and written English and French: ability to understand and speak both languages in professional contexts as well as the ability to draft texts for publications and/ or official communications and to make oral presentations in both languages.

Employment Conditions
