Introduction

You will join the International Relations Sector (IR), Science Gateway Business Unit (SG) that is responsible for operating the CERN Science Gateway and for the operations of outreach activities in the local area and abroad, ensuring smooth operations, identifying and managing external resources, technical support, coordinating programmes of activities at the Science Gateway and in the local area. The CERN Science Gateway aims at engaging the public with the science, the discoveries, the technologies and the people working at CERN; inspiring the next generation to explore a career in science and technology and empowering visitors of all ages to make sense of the science that shapes their live.

The Science Gateway group is composed of professionals covering all its activities: event managers, visitors reception specialists, shop managers, technical support and facility management team etc.

You will join the Visitor and Event Operations section (VI), which is responsible for welcoming external visitors to CERN on guided tours, operating the permanent exhibitions, the CERN Shop, internal, public and private events, coordinating guides trainings and assignments.

Functions

As Event Operations Coordinator, you will participate in the planning, coordination, and organisation of internal, private and public events in the Science Gateway Campus and in the local area (about 100 events per year).

This will entail:

- Working with the Event Operations team to handle all requests for events in the Science Gateway Campus

- Acting as liaison between the event organizers and other stakeholders (Science Gateway Management, technical support team, visits service, Education, Communication and Outreach Group, CERN & Society Foundation, other CERN services, external suppliers, site access, etc.).

You will also help engaging and developing a dynamic community of CERN volunteers who will be in contact with the public for events, but also in guided tours, exhibitions, science shows and educational labs.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Event Management, Public Relations, or equivalent. or a related field.

Proven experience in event organisation.

The following experience would be an advantage:

  • Knowledge of CERN and its outreach strategy.
  • Experience in a science centre or museum
  • Previous experience working in international settings
  • Handling relations and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Technical competencies:

  • Event organisation and management: covering conferences, workshops & public events
  • Use of office software packages
  • Social media: (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), Drupal and other Content Management Systems (CMS).

  • Use of Event Management tools (ticketing, booking, resource management) and Data Management tools (data extraction, statistics etc.)

Language skills:

  • English and French spoken and written, with the ability to draw-up technical specifications and to make oral presentations.
  • Knowledge of other languages than French and English would be an advantage.

Employment Conditions
