Your responsibilities

Join the CERN IT Cloud team to work on the 10'000 node bare metal fleet we manage!

Are you a talented Computing Engineer who would like to come and work with computing at scale, helping run the cloud computing infrastructure underpinning most of the CERN and LHC experiment services? As a member of the team responsible for the OpenStack-based cloud service, you will help evolving our infrastructure, with a mixture of operational and development tasks.

Your main functions will include:

  • Running and helping to evolve CERN IT's OpenStack based cloud infrastructure.
  • Running and helping to evolve the life-cycle management of bare metal servers with our OpenStack/Ironic API and framework: Maintain the Ironic control plane, integrate new server deliveries, provide nodes to our various user communities, or maintain the tooling to support burn-in, stress-testing, or phase-out.
  • Contribute to the OpenStack/Ironic code base, leveraging our links with the upstream community.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

Required:

  • Strong knowledge of the Linux Operating System
  • Experience with git code version control -
  • Experience in Python

Desired:

  • Experience with config management systems, such as Puppet or Ansible
  • Experience with management of physical servers or BMC protocols such as IPMI or Redfish

Language requirements:

  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Software Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
