Job Description

Role Overview

The candidate will be working on the Jason Workbench. This is a comprehensive commercial software package for advanced seismic reservoir characterization. The Jason Workbench has been successfully innovating for over 30 years and is the preferred inversion technology at many international majors and national oil companies.

The Computer Geoscientist is responsible for creating and improving geoscience algorithms, applications and their user interfaces.

The team working on the deterministic inversion components of Jason is looking for a new all-round skilled team member! An ideal candidate would be able to do the following:

  • Scientific research and prototyping of new ideas and workflows.

  • Delivery of a commercially saleable software product.

  • Taking ownership of existing code and making improvements to existing applications as required.

  • Implementation of user-friendly end-user interfaces for the new or improved algorithms.

 

Principal Accountabilities

The responsibilities of the Computer Geoscientist are:

  • Advancing the state of the reservoir characterization algorithms and applications.

  • Ensuring that new software designs and implementations satisfy the requirements for the software.

  • Assuming maintenance responsibility for certain parts of the already existing software.

  • Conducting and participating in peer reviews.

  • Reporting any timing and / or technical project issues to the team.

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • A master’s degree (MSc) or PhD in one or more of the areas:

    • geophysics

    • physics

    • mathematics

    • electrical engineering

    • related field and affinity with mathematical algorithms and signal processing.

  • More than a course at university experience with C++ and object-oriented programming concepts.

  • Capable of working within cross-functional teams, sharing best practices and knowledge.

  • Has, or is capable and willing to obtain geophysical knowledge.

  • Excellent communication skills in English are essential.

 

Desired:

  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence techniques and technologies.

  • Experience with graphical user interface development.

  • A familiarity with aspects of a software development cycle (version control, requirements, testing, etc.).

  • Experience with cross-platform (Windows and Linux) programming.

  • Experience with development of commercial software.
