Job Description

  • Provide 7 x 24  on-call support as part of a rotating schedule
  • Must be available for unscheduled call-in as well as prearranged support during periods outside normal business hours.
  • Install and configure Linux and Unix based  desktops, servers and clusters
  • Install and configure the Operating systems and all applicable software
  • Maintain and repair Unix and Linux systems and associated equipment
  • Maintain appropriate backups of systems as defined in the backup schedule
  • Monitor  systems, networks and storage in a proactive manner
  • Understand user needs and respond to their requests for assistance
  • Prioritize and address multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment
  • Use task ticket system accurately and punctually
  • Resolve support requests in a timely manner, escalating to other team members when appropriate
  • Work independently and with other members of the team
  • Ensure projects are properly conducted, monitored and documented using Company standard tools

Qualifications

  • Strong background in Linux/Unix Administration
  • Experience with automation/configuration management using either Puppet, Chef, Salt, Ansible or an equivalent
  • Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services
  • Strong experience with SQL and MySQL (NoSQL experience is a plus, too, since we also use Redis)
  • Experience using Git in a team environment (merge requests, branching, push, and pulls)
  • Experience with Docker and container orchestration.
  • A familiarity of code and script (Python, Perl); shell scripting
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Experience in fast faced, high-volume production systems
  • Very good technical understanding and technical leadership qualities
  • Excellent communications, presentation, and customer service skills, and must have an outstanding track record of meeting customer expectations.
  • Must be detail oriented & work well in a team environment
  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, management information systems, or related field with  1-3 years Linux administration experience
  • Must have legal right to live and work in the United States

Preferred:

  • Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC) and clustering technology (object storage, parallel file systems, RAID storage) desirable
  • Understands networks, RAID and tape subsystems
  • Knowledge of SQL queries
  • Knowledge of GPUs is desirable
  • Basic familiarity with IP networking
  • Experience in a high-volume critical production service environment
