Job Description
We are looking for a Manager to join the Subsidiary Reporting & Financial Controls team at CPP Investments. Reporting to the Director, Subsidiary Reporting & Financial Controls, this role is responsible for coleading centralized corporate accounting operations across CPP Investments, with a focus on payroll and incentive compensation accounting, and its global offices. The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation in technical accounting, operational experience in a complex environment, and a continuous improvement mindset.
As a Manager, Financial Reporting, you will be responsible for helping to coordinate the financial reporting function for CPP Investments and the risk-based review of financial reporting controls. You will enhance our current “best in class” reporting to contribute to CPP Investments’ reputation of integrity through transparent disclosure of financial information to management, Board of Directors, and our external stakeholders.
Core Accountabilities:
- Independently lead pieces of work during the completion of quarterly and annual financial statements, including the financial statement notes in accordance with IFRS.
- Coordinate with the external auditors in the legal entity annual audits i.e. coordinating timelines and key deliverables and identifying and resolving financial statement issues.
- Partner with various departments that impact or contribute to the timely and accurate production of financial information contained in the general ledger. Lead continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial reporting process.
- Establish and maintain accurate and complete books and records to support financial, tax, and regulatory reporting. Ensure financial data is reconciled, accurate, timely, and maintained within a strong control environment.
- Support the management and oversight of daily accounting operations, including the maintenance and reconciliation of operating accounts, and the review and approval of journal entries. Contribute to the monthly financial close process in collaboration with other finance teams.
- Collaborate with the Accounting Policy team and other stakeholders within the organization.
- Develop talent by coaching, training and engaging the staff with assignments that align with their career plans and needs for the team.
- Proactively identify, design, and implement improvements to accounting processes. Collaborate with stakeholders to build scalable and efficient workflows, incorporating industry best practices and leveraging automation tools where appropriate.
Perform variance analysis and critically assess financial fluctuations to identify underlying business drivers, ensuring transparency and meaningful insight for stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or college diploma in related field (i.e., Finance, Accounting, Business, etc.)
- 6+ year experience in financial reporting in investment management, pension fund or financial services industry
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA)
- Proven experience with corporate, financial, and regulatory filing requirements in various jurisdictions.
- Excellent understanding of IFRS and internal controls over financial reporting
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
- Experience with Human Resources, Leases, or Fixed Asset accounting is an asset
- Experience with Oracle Financials (or a similar enterprise general ledger system), automation tools (e.g. VBA, UiPath), or entry-level programming languages (e.g. Python, Power Query, SQL) is considered an asset
