Tomorrow’s cable industry will look nothing like it does today. It can’t. The world is rapidly changing with broadband moving way beyond traditional screens and devices. To keep pace with consumer demand for fully personalized content when, where and how they want it, cable must constantly exceed those demands. In fact, it must invent desire for new products long before the public even knows it can’t live without them… breakthroughs await in IP-centric technologies, smart sensors, second-screen content and more.

As CableLabs envisions the future of digital life outside the box, we pioneer and test new ideas, then collaborate to bring them to life - we drive the delivery of new technology for cable operators, validate standards for manufacturers and connect with new partners to transform the status quo. By developing technology that will carry data even faster, we serve as the catalyst for quicker innovation and richer experiences.

CableLabs is at the vanguard of this revolution, fueling cable’s new drive with creativity and innovation.

Job Description

We are currently looking to fill a paid intern position supporting our Strategy team. Strategy is central to the work of CableLabs. In advising CableLabs engineers and Cable operators on technology, business, and public policy trends, Strategy helps the industry remain the provider of choice for broadband, voice, video, and related communications services. The Strategy team applies quantitative and qualitative analysis to key issues, produces written reports for the Cable industry, and presents results to top Cable executives.

The Strategy Intern will assist the Strategy team in analyzing issues of competitive importance to the Cable industry.  Projects generally examine how technology development impacts Cable services and its competition, and how government policy affects the competitive and technology landscape.  For example, competition-based public policy, through regulation, subsidies, and other means, can impact Cable’s strategic positioning in the broadband market; the Strategy Intern may evaluate these risks in the context of the dynamic communications marketplace to make recommendations for technology policy and strategy.

• Must have knowledge of communications technology, particularly broadband and video services.

• Familiarity with the competitive environment for broadband and video services, as well as an understanding of US public policy.
