Job Description

CableLabs is searching to fill a summer position with an Intern to provide support to the CableLabs’ Video Services and Technology department on technology issues related to Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV/4K) user interfaces.  Ultra High Definition Television, also known as “4K” will deliver four times the resolution of today’s 1080p HD to provide consumers with stunning, lifelike picture quality. 

The summer intern will be a member of CableLabs IP Video Technologies team and work with some of CableLabs’ top engineers and architects on a UHDTV technology assessment and development project.


One-on-one time with team members and mentoring are important parts of the summer experience, with time spent in R&D meetings alongside engineers and developers to understand the role of advancing innovation and future technology trends.


The summer intern will prepare a plan and develop an innovative reference 4K Web/UI for our UHDTV lab systems that accommodates cable and CE considerations for the delivery of 4K content to a UHDTV.  The UI will be used for for evaluating, selecting and playing content located from a local machine or remotely via a Content Delivery Network (CDN) on the UHDTV.  The UI client will contain decode capabilities for encoded content, such as MPEG AVC and HEVC.  The user experience you create will be prominently displayed in demonstrations of the 4K lab to cable industry executives.



  • Graduate student working towards a master’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Development skills with web-based client server applications with associated back-end database systems.
  • Experience developing web applications using some of the following technologies; PHP, ColdFusion, JavaScript, Flash, Silverlight and AJAX.
  • Familiar with the use of HTML, CSS, XML/XSD.
  • Technical background or strong interest in technology and innovation.
