Job Description

Manage the development of policies and forms for the credit union system’s personal and small business retail banking products with a focus on simplicity to enable a positive member experience. This includes the identification and development of content based products and product improvements that satisfy credit union members’ needs; manage the department’s content based product development / Operations Manual program; manage the department’s product development support program; providing guidance to these business areas as well as other product development groups at Central 1 Credit Union (“Central”).

Specific Accountabilities

Establish cost and performance based metrics for Central 1 delivery of retail forms and manuals product and support to member credit unions.

Review and communicate the programs value to credit union members to ensure that credit union members are leveraging the full benefit of the program.

Develop and negotiate strategic alliances with national and international banking service vendors. Manage the Central 1 - CMHC Approved Lender Agreement for Central 1 and BC and Ontario credit unions. Manage a combined budget with revenues in excess of $1.4 million?.

Set and oversee product development business areas’ delivery goals and objectives including establishing KPI’s, milestones and resourcing budget.

Take ownership of and establish the content product roadmap and work with other departments to ensure that members and impacted internal departments are aware of the roadmap.

Plan and drive the product development areas’ analysis of legislative developments to help identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, and drives revisions in previously published materials or the development of new materials.

Project plan and prioritize product development support areas’ publishing schedule. Oversee the publication of two extensive online Operations Manuals and 750 plus interactive credit union forms. Oversee the development and direction of the department’s websites, web-based applications and content management database system. Sets and oversees product development support areas’ publishing styles and quality assurance standards.

Establish and maintain an advisory committee of credit union operations managers to provide consultation for Operations Manual.

Represent Central on a variety of committees, and may make representations to industry organizations and regulatory bodies.

Evaluate retail products offered by other sectors of the financial industry to determine if these can be adapted to serve the needs of credit union members.

Work with Central 1 internal legal counsel to review credit union specific legislation to identify opportunities to develop innovative and sector specific retail products that provide credit unions with a competitive advantage.

Provide input into strategic direction of retail product development and product development support activities and provide training and guidance to direct reports and other Central departments.

Support acceptance within Central and the Canadian credit union system to develop aligned business offerings, with the goal of providing an array of innovative retail products and services, offered nationally. Orchestrate the development of marketing, systems, and infrastructure required for the introduction and support of retail products.

Supervision Given:

Manage content based product development and product development support operations. Manage copy editors and technical writers.

Supervision Received:

The incumbent operates within broad objectives established by the AVP, Special Projects and has the freedom to act within the department’s mandate. Judgment is required in setting priorities and in selecting appropriate responses to circumstances.

Work Environment:

Incumbent controls own workflow in accordance with operational requirements, that may require working outside scheduled hours at certain times. The incumbent is frequently seated, and some visual attention is typically required while performing computer work.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related analytical field or equivalent as well as minimum 10 years relevant experience, including the managing staff and/or planning and managing business and operational performance. Experience gained at the retail level of the financial services industry is an asset.

Knowledge of legislation governing Canadian credit unions. Knowledge of commercial and residential lending. Analytical and project management skills to oversee projects of considerable complexity to support credit union operating and legislative requirements. Advanced communication, interpersonal and customer relations. Good understanding of the methods, standards and best practices relating to technical writing and forms design.

Experience managing multiple content driven product lines with the goal of ensuring that they are accurate, compliant and meet delivery timelines.

Comfortable with driving and communicating change.

Project Management experience is an asset.
