Job Description

Provides thorough, timely content edits and copyedits of book and Bible projects as assigned.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Curates and edits content for assigned derivative book projects, working with the project’s acquiring editor to ensure it is properly developed.
  • Performs substantive edit steps for assigned book and Bible projects, including: content flow and syntax, transitioning, tightening to decrease redundancies, expansion as necessary, scripture checks, verification of all source documentation, checking of terms, inputting of hard copy edits as required.
  • Copyedits assigned book and Bible projects, including: correcting syntax, spelling, grammar and punctuation, scripture checks, verification of all source documentation issues, and checking of terms.
  • Reviews all proposed corrections, changes, and queries with the appropriate developmental editor or acquisitions editor.
  • Provides quality control for legal and doctrinal issues, content consistency, and accuracy.
  • Provides scheduling input to the Vice President of Content Development to position, maintain, and track all trade book and Bible projects.
  • Performs other editing duties as assigned by the Vice President of Content Development.
  • Maintains Charisma House style and quality. Follows all Content Development SOPs.
  • Agrees with Charisma Media’s vision statement, beliefs, and values.
  • Abides by all policies and procedures of Charisma Media.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related area of study; at least three years’ experience in the editing process of books and/or Bibles; familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style
  • Preferred: familiarity with charismatic/Pentecostal markets

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

Excellent planning and communications skills, ability to handle numerous projects at one time, accurate and efficient, detail oriented, excellent grammar skills, ability to take direction, good eye for consistency in layout, ability to type 50 words per minute, proficient in Word, Excel, PC operations; some knowledge of InDesign and MAC operations desirable.
