Job Description

This is a great opportunity for an accounting student who is looking for practical experience and an introduction to accounting in a non-profit organization.  The ideal candidate would be available to come in 2-3 days a week to complete weekly accounts payable processes and monthly account reconciliations under the direction of the Controller.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares all accounts payable including invoice processing, receipt verification, data entry, and weekly check run.
  • Verifies budget account numbers used for purchasing activities and advises staff on appropriate accounts to charge for purchases. Requests new accounts as needed.
  • Reconciles payables, accruals, receivables, fixed assets and other accounts as assigned by Controller.
  • Updates fixed assets reconciliations spreadsheets with new purchases.
  • Completes credit card reconciliations for all company held credit cards.
  • Reviews travel expense reports for all staff, verifying receipts, accounts, and authorization.
  • Maintains house accounts and keeps staff informed as to changes or additions.
  • Monitors clearing account and collects receivables from staff.
  • Assists with audit preparation and reporting requirements.
  • Prepares 1099 for issuance.
  • Assists with research and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited local University, with a major in Accounting; Junior or Senior level, with current GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Strong technical and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in a professional environment
  • A high level of integrity, accuracy, dependability, enthusiasm and confidentiality
