Job Description

What is the Design Studio?

 CAF’s ArcelorMittal Design Studio is Chicago’s first collaborative learning space focused on architecture, engineering, design, and planning content. Studio programs use LEGO bricks, model-making materials, technology, and other hands-on exploration tools to foster creativity, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills for young children, teens, teachers, and adult learners.

 The Studio showcases and promotes design thinking, a problem-solving process that anyone—not just architects, designers, or engineers—can employ in their personal and professional lives.

CAF is looking for an individual to facilitate events in this space as well as manage day-to-day activities and operations of the Design Studio.  

Core Responsibilities

 

Education Facilitator

  • Responsible for the facilitation of many Design Studio events such as, Design Studio Student Experiences, Lego Builds, Open Studio Hours, Children’s Birthday Parties, Spring and Summer Camps, Facility Rentals and programs yet to be determined
  • Responsible for being adequately trained and prepared to execute an array of Design Studio product offerings during a given day of the week; day time, evening, holiday and weekend availability is required
  • Works under the direction of the Studio Lead Educator to support Education and Adult Programming events as needed
  • Responsible for collecting data about participants and documenting programs using a program-dashboard
  • Responsible for inventorying supplies for all Design Studio and other education programs and reporting these in a timely manner
  • Responsible for maintaining general cleanliness and presentation expectations of the spaces including supply replenishment and LEGO breakdown in preparation for future events

 

Skills and Attributes –

  • Available to work a flexible 20-35 hour work week, scheduled bi-weekly
  • A strong desire to continue to learn and is excited about design and sharing that with others
  • Strong customer service skills when working with both internal and external audiences
  • High level of professionalism with an out-going and “can-do” personality
  • Ability to successfully work in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to recognize and take advantage of efficiencies
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Respond to customer inquiries in a timely and profession manner
  • Able to lift and move 40 pounds
  • Able to stand and walk the while performing duties for an 8 hour work shift

 

Qualifications

Experience Required

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1-2 years experience in Education, Architecture or Design preferred
  • Experience working with students K-12 or families from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience putting together presentations for different audiences
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite and computer systems
