TITLE: Individual Client Services Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Legal Assistants (Individual Client Services)

REPORTS TO: Director of Legal Assistants

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Individual Client Services Specialist assists in all aspects of estate administration which

includes probate, maintenance, taxes and the closing out of the estate. The Individual Client

Services Specialist has, through experience and training, developed superior knowledge and skill

in all aspects of estate administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

The Individual Client Services Specialist:

• Reads and interprets the will and prepares the draft of probate papers.

• Marshals the assets.

• Collects insurance proceeds, handles Medicare and other medical claims, ascertains the

decedent's debts and collects bank accounts.

• Arranges for the appraisals of real property and tangible personal property, and prepares

date of death valuations for banking and brokerage accounts.

• Assembles information for the Fiduciary Accountant to prepare the decedent's final

income tax return.

• Establishes estate checking and brokerage accounts, pays all bills, maintains checkbook

ledgers, and files the estate's inventory with the court.

• Fiduciary Taxes- Conducts income tax planning for the estate and beneficiaries and

assembles the information for the Fiduciary Accountant to prepare the fiduciary income

tax returns.

• Federal and State Estate Taxes- Prepares estate tax projections and the Federal and

State estate tax returns for the attorney's and/or Fiduciary Accountant's review.

• Audit- Gathers information required to substantiate the return as filed and any additional

information that has surfaced since the filing.

• Closes out the estate which includes arranging for distribution of remaining assets in cash

or by reregistering and distributing securities, drafting receipt and releases and other

closing documents.

• Trusts - Trust administration.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five (5) +years related

experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A Specialist

is required to be familiar with all aspects of estate and trust administration and, in particular, is

expected to have a general working knowledge of estate and gift taxation and income taxation of

estates and trusts. The Specialist works more independently and has a greater knowledge of the

interaction between action and theory.
